It's been reported he has had more interviews with CGY as well.

This year's Leafs team was intentionally designed to be awful though. They wanted a top pick more than wins.
The Leafs under Carlyle actually wanted to win games.

The Carlyle rumor is outdated. The last news was that Anaheim had more interest in Carlyle than we did, and our candidates were more Green/Gulutzan.

FWIW a poster in the Flames section of HFBoards said in the coaching thread that they saw Treliving and Dineen meet in Buffalo, and feels confident that he would be the next head coach.

I think it is tough to compare players from era to era. So instead will focus on this era - for which Crosby is the best player, and it isn't close.
Crosby has the personal hardware, stats, and championships.
Other players simply don't check all those boxes, including AO. It isn't even close.
The only player in this generation that is even close is Nik Lindstrom, but even then there ages may be too far apart from that to be a fair comparison.

But would he be a good coaching candidate for the Flames?

If Carlyle was going to be the guy I think it would have been done already, especially with the Ducks sniffing around.

Most good coaches come from players who needed to work at their game in order to succeed. Crosby is so self motivated to be the best that I think he'd make a great coach. Yeah, so that's who I want.

It's nice to see Keslee stumping for Carlyle, amongst other unsurprising meathead thoughts. Hopefully Bieksa is also trumpeting the merits of Randy.

Quote:
However, the fire that still burns in Carlyle's belly doesn’t surprise Kesler. Ryan Kesler had a 30-goal AHL season when Randy Carlyle coached the Manitoba Moose.
“I remember that he probably played me 30 minutes a night,” Kesler chuckled Wednesday of scoring 30 goals for the 60-year-old Windsor, Ont., native during that NHL lockout season. “He was a very good bench coach and very detailed. We worked on faceoff plays every practice and on the power play every practice — things that you really need to work on everyday.”

Can we stay away from ex-Flames? For as much as we like to dump on the Oilers and Oiler fans we sure do behave like them sometimes.
