Meier is good. His point totals may be boosted by Ehlers but I've seen him play a couple of times and was impressed. He should definitely go in the first round. Craig also has him high on his list, which has some correlation with the Flames list
I would still like to see Roy or Carlo with our first pick

Its impossible to guess who we will grab past Rd 2 IMO, too many variables
I'd prefer we package to move up to the top 10 and grab one of Hanifin, Proverov or Werenski

So do I!
I think it is obvious from those highlights that Crouse isn't just a passenger on that line. Watson seems more like the passenger. I would love to have a guy like Crouse in the system, but doubtful the Flames would be drafting that high, or that Crouse would drop that far. You can argue that Crouse benefits more from having Bennett as his center than Bennett benefits from having Crouse, but to me it just seems like they compliment one another so perfectly. Hopefully Poirier can replace Crouse there in the future.

I was skeptical about Crouse before the WJC, but now he does look like a solid prospect.
If Treliving were to package up the 2nd rounders to move up into the top 10 I could imagine him targeting Crouse.
Really though I hope BT is eyeing up solid defensive prospects.

If a team other than Buffalo won the draft lottery, what do you think Buffalo would have to offer to move from #2 to #1?

I don't think they would try to move up. The team picking 2nd will probably be more than happy taking Eichel (except maybe Edmonton).

Another ESPN insider article ($$$$). This time Pronman argues why Hanifin should not go higher than 5th overall.
http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/nhl-...omeOverHanifin
The gist of it is based on analytics that a forward will drive possession more than a defenceman will.
He also argues that Marner and Strome's offensive IQ and puck skills outweigh Hanifin's.

So it's the article the oilers are going to refer to when they pass on a defenseman for a skilled forward.

If you think its a tie... yes go for the forward. But you have to pick the player you think is best no matter the position (goalie excluded). Using an average of all NHL players and applying it to top of the draft prospects doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

I was at the Charlottetown Islanders vs. St. John Sea Dogs game last night. Craig Button was also there, likely to scout Daniel Sprong, Filip Chlapik and Thomas Chabot. Chabot really impressed me (he's a 6' 1" left shooting D for St. John) with his skating, positional play and offence (a goal and 2 assists). Sprong also had a very good game. He can really skate and has tremendous acceleration with very good stick handling and puck protection. He can wire the puck too and made some nice set ups for team mates (he has not always looked for other players). I've seen him wind up and beat every member of the opposition to score goals reminiscent of a young Bobby Hull. The downside of Sprong is his defensive game or, rather, his lack of a defensive game. Whoever takes this right winger will need to work on this aspect of his game.

^My understanding was that Flames AGM Brad Pascall was also at that game.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Dylan Strome wins OHL scoring title with 4 pts today, a period to go: Strome 44G-83A-127P in 68GP. Marner 44G-82A-126P in 63GP.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
In honor of Strome-Marner battle for OHL scoring race, I just did a flash poll of 8 NHL scouts to see who they have rated higher right now:
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Four scouts took Strome. Four scouts took Marner. So, that settles that. Well, not really.

The top of the order is stacked this year. Say the top 6 or 7 would be huge additions to any team.
Could argue that all the way down to 12 too I guess.
Boy I wish the Flames could've grabbed Rantanen. Too bad.

Hey, welcome back to the present! What are things like in the future? How was the draft? Who did the Flames pick?

Flames will very likely be one of two places.
1. drafting 14-30th
or
2. drafting 1st
Rantanen will likely go top ten.
Anything can happen of course but the line of thought for me is He won't be in the Flames neighborhood when all is said and done.

It's going to be costly to get in the top 12 this draft. Unless there's a must have for the Flames' scouts, the price for a 15-30 first rounder is likely considerably less, more so than most drafts. Considering the pool between 15-45 -- I have doubts as to how worth it is to trade up and give up a second in the process.

Three 2nds and two 3rds is pretty solid currency to be dealing with going into the draft. Not to mention a very stacked prospect pool and a few veterans that may not be part of Treliving's longterm plan here.
If a D like Provorov or Crouse slipped out of the top 10 it might be fairly cheap to move up a half-dozen or so spots to snag them.
