I think I might prefer two of those as the 1st rounder would be in the 27-30 pick (most likely) as well with two of those prospects, they have either 1 or 2 years of development already
|
Iginla for Pouliot and Maata (with Tyler Kennedy as the salary throw in, if necessary.) I would be happy with that return.
Pouliot and the 1st if we have to settle for the draft pick (but, like you, I definitely prefer two prospects.)

It looks extra bad if the Iginla sweeps winner goes deep in the playoffs instead of you.
ie looking for a job.

But these are arguably four of the absolute best GMs in hockey we are talking about. If the deal the Flames want is too much for them, then they'll say thanks and move on. They didn't build the great teams they have by being impatient or by forcing moves.

Well considering that half of the rumours out there for his return were either made up by a 3rd or 4th tier rumour monger, HF boards, or pure speculation by us fans, yes I would say it is safe to say the Flames won't get what we are all expecting.
They will however get something, and something is better than nothing, which is the alternative should he walk. We can't look at this as ERMERGERD WE HAVE TO GET THIS AND THIS AND THIS, it should be lets aim for this, and take as close to it as we can get before the buzzard sounds April 3rd. Iggy is washing his hands with Calgary, try to cash in before he walks away.

No, when asked about the list he said "I didn't say anything about a list".
Not, There is no List.
Its a big differance, he could have easily meant. We're talking about the game we just won, why are you bring up some list that I wasn't talking about.
We don't know. But their is a differance, I found his answer vague, not definative.

Sure but a series of bad trades and teams downward spirral lead to Sutter's doom. You are suggesting that not picking up Iggy would lead to those 3 maybe being fired. Each one of those Gm's has won the Stanley cup in the last 3 years. It's not even close to the same situation.

And the reason he lost his job is he was too short-sighted and he neglected the intake of young talent into the roster. If anything, Sutter is a cautionary tale against mortgaging away the future.

The way 960 was carrying on this morning you could have sworn Iginla was traded to PIT for their 1st round pick and 2 defensive prospects.
They already had him playing with Crosby.
I will be glad when the deal is just done.
Not a fan of speculations.

Hossa with Pitsburgh -- gave up what tuned out to be nothing made cup finals
Borque with Colorado -- didn't win the first year but allowed them to resign borque the following year and then win the cup
It really depends on what you use as a measure of success. If it is cup or bust then there will be mostly busts becasue 4 teams will load up and only one will win. If Boston or Pittsburgh trade for Iggy will winning the East be considered a success? Because the arms race between them right now is to beat each other.
The other factor of looking at trading for iggy is the leg up it will give you in resigning him. If you can resign him to a 3 year deal that fits with your cap structure than giving up more to get that first shot and get him comfortable with your team becomes worth it and it expands the success window for a few more years.

I was just relieved the list did not include VAN and TOR which you know Sportsnet and TSN were so hoping to tie him to. They would be the frontrunners even if there was no practical or logical sense to it at all.
I'm sure they are very disappointed.

Sutter picked up Jokinen in 2009 to win the SC. Regehr , the #1 d-man at the time, The whole second line and then Phanuef were injured and they still pushed Chi to 6.
If the Flames go 3 rounds in 09 and Sutter is still GM today. As it stood it was the 4th first round exit and the skids were greased.
The key piece of that trade going to Phx was Gormley.... who at 21 has fallen behind Erixon in development.
Boston picks up Iginla or doesn't and then Chara, Bergeron and any other d-man get hurt.... Boston get knocked out in the first round. Next year Chirella needs to do something it will be 2 first round dissappointing knock outs since the SC.
Remember when we were all complaining because the Flames couldn't get past the first round? Sutter couldn't get it done.

So is Iggy looking at being a rental only & becoming a UFA for the first time in his career? Or is he looking at signing an extension with the team he eventually waives his NMC to?
If he's going to re-sign with his new team, we should get more in assets.

If he's going to sign, I hope he ends up in PIT.

If Iginla doesn't get traded. I can see him just resigning with Calgary again, and we being at this stage again next year

Considering Boston's PP sucks ass i'm sure they would take Tanguay too.
Tanguay, Iggy and Sarich for
Marchand, 1st rounder and centre prospect.

Personal opinion here but I do not want that greasy slime ball Marchand anywhere near the Flames.

How would you enforce that? The team could pass on his services this season and then sign him as a UFA.
I think the return is only for Iginla as a rental...and I think the return will be better than nothing (and him staying) but will be less than most Flames fan hope.
