Just watched the Heat's 5-4 SO win. Heat were up 2-0 after 20, and 2-1 after 40. Meaning we let in 3 goals in the third period. It looked over for a bit until Jones ( Yes, Blair Jones) scored to tie it up with 9 seconds left in the third. Jones also had a fight, a SO goal, and was relied on heavily for a lot of important face-offs. He looks like a different player playing with Abbotsford. Sven Baertschi was part of all three of four goals, as he ended up with one goal and two assists. He was playing with Kolanos, and Walter and their line had some definite chemistry. They could of had a couple more goals. Good comeback win for the Heat, and hopefully this can get Baertschi confidence back up.

So did Sven have just one goal, or 3 points?

1+1. He originally had another assist but they later gave it to Horak.

A very good day for prospects. Sven with 2 points, Reinhart with 2 points, Jankowski with 2 points.

I'd like to know more details about Irving's injury/surgery if anyone knows anything.

Awesome game for the whole team it seems! Even Brust had a bit of a bounce back game. There are only a few goalies in the world that can face 40 shots and do well. So good on Brust for hanging in there.
Baertschi, Reinhart and Horak with excellent games as well.

Leland Irving is not available to the team after having eye surgery, from which he’s expected to return to action within the next two weeks

It could just be a comfort thing too. I've played goal wearing my glasses under my mask for the last 10 years because wearing contacts actually were more bothersome then having my glasses on. If I played even half as much as Leland did, I would look into laser surgery in a second.
I'd actually be curious to see how many hockey players opt for laser surgery since I've worn contacts and a visor as well and that was like looking into a fun house mirror.

Kolanos has put up 5 points in his last 5 games.
His training regimen was heavily focused on being in peak condition a few weeks before the playoffs. It looks like he's doing that again this year and that's great news for the Heat because they'll need him in the last 11 games to make the post-season.

Can you imagine Napoleon Dynamite without his glasses? Not nearly as fun.

I sure would love this dude to work on explosive / agility training. He's got all the talent in the world, and he needs speed / defensive poise to put himself back in the NHL. Those two skill improvements would likely translate into more consistency for him, too.
PMM - does he recognize this is what he needs? Does he know what's preventing him from being a full-time NHL player?
I'm a huge Kolanos fan, always have been... I just want to see this guy succeed still, even if he is 31. I must be the only one.

Kolanos must be one frustrated fella, and I don't blame him. If it weren't for all the ridiculous injuries, he would have been a full time NHLer a long time ago.
Still, he battles through them and the resulting surgeries/lay off to get back to the brink last year, only to have a lock out/shortened season rob him of a training camp where he could have competed for a spot head to head against his peers.

I don't know. I agree with you though. He's really slow and doesn't play much defensive hockey. Easily one of the most frustrating players I've ever watched.

Kulak's 19 and won't turn 20 until next January, so I don't think he can sign with the Heat next season, but this will be a great learning opportunity for him.

Very cool for Kulak to get a chance to experience pro hockey for a little while. Wonder how little logistics work for him, does he room with a player for the rest of the season, stay with his billets in Vancouver? How much can you make of an ATO?
Think he probably doesn't get into the lineup unless there is an injury, it took Reinhart even something like 2 weeks of practice before Ward put him in.

How long until the Giants are done?
Or are they done already?
That's great that Kulak will get that experience with still another season of junior left.
