I don't believe the Hitmen use the fire, and I don't think Baertschi has played at the Saddledome against them.
He was injured when Portland made their one visit to Calgary this season, and last year, the Hitmen visited Portland and the Winterhawks didn't play in Calgary.

If you think he's lighting up thw WHL now, just wait until he goes back down with a boatload of tips and tricks from the NHL and even more confidence.

I want him to show nothing...let the Winterhawks get knocked out early and come back to Calgary for exactly 9 games total.

I don't want Sven to play for anyone but the Flames. Ever.

Nope, I'd rather he goes through a long playoff run in Portland as the leader or one of the leaders of the team, gets to the mem cup, scores the game winning goal, and is even more well rounded because of it.

or......OR..... he keeps lighting it up here, we make the playoffs and win the cup with him scoring in every game. We win the cup, he wins the MVP and then next year he wins the calder.
He could be our Patrick Roy!

I want him to have a nice long run with Portland as well. Bring in more winning experience up next season. Yes it would be great to keep him up but there is nothing wrong with him going back down.

There is virtually no chance the Winterhawks fail to reach the second round, and I'd even be surprised if they didn't get to the third. The latest he could go is mid May, if they win the Ed Chynoweth Cup and advance to the Memorial Cup.
I am reasonably certain playoff games don't count against his ELC, so if he returns then, he should be in the clear.

There is one more factor and that is the 50 contract MAX. We are currently at the 50 contract limit and therefore we can not add Baertschi to the roster when he is not an emergency call up. We would still need to release a player first. Are there any issues with releasing players this time of year?

* because he is a junior player his contract does not count toward the fifty as I understand it.

OK, I haven't been able to watch any of the games, so somebody reputable that I can trust, please tell me how good has he really looked? Should I really be dreaming of Hossa?

He is looked pretty solid but he still needs a lot of work to live up to some of the people's expectations in this thread (i.e. calder candidate). He goes into the dirty areas which is nice and is relatively physical although he often comes out on the losing side of battles. With that said, there are far more positives at this time and the best part about him, IMO, is his attitude and desire to practice and improve as a player.

I disagree with your assessment. I think he looks great and depending on where he slots into the roster next year he looks like he's already capable of 15-20 goals, which could easilyut him in Calder talks.
You assessment that he has 'a lot of work to do' is valid in the sense that every young player has to work hard to improve, but your comment suggests he has shown some sort of weakness that he must overcome (of course, you didn't mention what that weakness is).
I'm not saying the kid doesn't have any weaknesses, but he isn't showing any att the moment. He's been in position, hasn't taken any unnecessary risks and he capitalized on his opportunities. He's fast, quick and has thus far shown to have a high work ethic on every shift...not sure where the 'lots of work to do' comes from at all.

Nice summary, just thought I'd add that he has great wheels, he's been flying out there. Adrenaline probably has helped
Both goals he roofed it from in relatively tight.
Still some work to do, but I can't remember the last time the Flames had a prospect with this much promise.

I would say Sven has played better than expected. I thought he would come up and keep up with the play; make a few passes and fore check. However, the main reason he has performed so well is his assertiveness. He wants the puck, and that is evident when you see him looking for the pass as he’s flying through the neutral zone. When I compare him to Backlund’s first couple games it’s not even close. I thought Backlund was passive, somewhat unsure of himself and almost seemed happy to get his shift over with.
Sven has shown that he wants to make a difference, and in the limited showcase of 3 games, I think he has. And more importantly each game he’s been better than the last.

That is what I meant. The flames are already at 50, Therefore he CAN NOT possibly play anymore than 9 games or in the playoffs because then we would have to realease someone inorder to add him to the 50 contracts.
