NHL hockey? As a player? That ship has sailed. Akim Aliu is 30-years-old.

Well he took a try at playing in Russia a few years ago but threw a temper tantrum in a hallway and punched his own goalie when he asked what was going on.
Calling out that pos Downie and co was great but doesn't excuse Aliu's other behavior

Can you link a source? Sounds like the Ray Emery incident in the KHL.

No articles that I know of, just one of those things you hear in the hockey world. Just like when he punched his coach in Sudbury, again unrelated to the Downie thing
The Emery one was the team doctor I think.
Edit: I'm not trying to change this into some attack on his character, just saying he's no angel either.

Interesting fact - Aliu speaks fluent Ukrainian and Russian. Born in Nigeria, lived in Ukraine, and moved to Canada.

Did anyone else catch Ryan Pinder on FAN960 yesterday saying that when he covered the Abbotsford Heat that teammates hated Aliu and there were fights in practice etc? Basically was saying he was a bad team mate. I only got a bit of it unfortunately as I was in and out of doing errands.

Aliu definitely got into fights with teammates in the OHL during the fallout from the hazing incident. Is it possible you heard him talking about that?

So no links or evidence... great. This "hockey world" sounds like a great place to be part of!

It's very very well possible each case was based on racism, he was standing up for himself, etc. I just personally don't buy that he's always been the victim, that's all

I didn't hear that particular interview either ,but that has been a theme throughout his career not just in Windsor

And you're right when I mentioned he's a price of crap the other day that probably was a bit too far. I don't want to come across as blaming the victim, but I also don't believe he's always been the victim

I heard part of it and took away that is was an ongoing thing.
I heard him say he was a bad teammate, undisciplined, wasn’t taking things seriously, things like that
That obviously doesn’t excuse anything
I believe his intent was more to speak towards the claim of other people ruining his career and saying he also may have had a part in his career not reaching his ultimate goal

The Athletic has a good article regarding Peters in Carolina;
https://theathletic.com/1415547/2019...e-allegations/
Quote:
Peters fell out of favor with a number of Hurricanes staff members and players during his tenure because of this incident and his failure to name Justin Williams captain when he came back to Carolina as a free agent — which was supposed to be the plan.
|
Interesting about the Justin Williams thing. Seems like a bit of a dick move and inline with what a coach that apprenticed under Babcock may do.

For what it’s worth I as well remember such a report. I think it was the very next year after he played with us but could be wrong.

Believe me and all the others saying the same things, or don't, doesn't matter. All I'm saying is Aliu has just as much to do with derailing his career as others do, you say he deserves a second chance, he's had a few.

I will respond to this for the last time as I really don’t think it’s worth it. The hiring of Bob Hartley was a joke. As was the hiring of Brent Sutter. When a pro sports team skirts around a meaningful hiring process to hire friends and family it’s really bad.
Should I be looking for Jay Feaster to say this to his face? Or Bob Hartley? Are you serious?
I have made no personal attacks on them as you have with me, and commented only on how they did their jobs.
The only question I have is why I’m defending myself to you. I will ponder that while I try to rebuild my sad and pathetic life.

Unless I'm totally misremembering I think it was even a thread on CP
Edit: Here it is, and even more recent than I was remembering. It was in Sweden, not the KHL like I thought
https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=167702
Predictably that thread also went straight to the hazing incident. Wow is there some bad takes there
Edit: Newspaper article:

There you go, people asking for a source. I'm generally not in the business of making crap up
