I just returned home from a two week trip to Nova Scotia and I can’t tell you how refreshing it was not to see a single politically motivated truck the entire time. I’m sure they are there but man it was just awesome to not have to look at a giant flag on a hockey stick or a giant #### Trudeau sticker every few blocks.
I like to think we have it pretty good in Alberta, like damn good but these people just seem to be so angry at ????? . I can’t reconcile it, I don’t understand why they feel so oppressed. What is it?
I was in NS for two weeks as well this summer and we literally went through the entire province. I saw three things against Trudeau the entire time. I saw more then that yesterday driving to the store here.
My wife and I said that NS was basically the polar opposite of AB. Almost no F Trudeau things, Pride flags everywhere, barely any pickups (and almost no overly jacked up ones), lots of people still wearing masks indoors. It was just so different.

I've heard this several times before from other posters. I have no idea about the political leanings of the forum, and I'm honestly curious:
Why would a forum for a hockey team that exists in a predominantly conservative city, in a predominantly conservative province be made up of mostly non-right leaning people? How does that happen?
I have running theory that most people consider themselves to be centrists, even if that's not true.

I think there is enough urban vote to stop her from winning an election. But if she wins the leadership she will be premiere for several months before having to face an election.
Any idea when the nomination contest takes place in Livingstone-Macleod. Will Roger Reid, the incumbent MLA who has already declared that he will contest Danielle Smith for the nomination there, step down and allow her to take the seat?

Price of natural gas went negative in Alberta last week. The same product that sells for over $10CAD/GJ in the USA and over $50CAD/GJ in Europe.
That can be pretty frustrating if your livelihood depends on the value of that product. People get angry and need someone to blame.
Will they always or entirely blame the right person, no? Are they right to cuss Freeland out? No. But you put any industry or group of people under similar circumstances and you will get the same responses. It's human behavior, you might think if you were in their shoes you would have shaped differently. But that thought is entirely rooted in narcissism, a belief that you are a higher person incapable of any road but the high road.
I hope you enjoyed Nova Scotia, that was an extremely GHG intensive vacation and terrible for the environment.
If there’s any better example of whataboutism or one poster’s admitted need to be a contrarian than the focus on the far left’s criticism of the 1619 project in the Alberta Politics Thread, then I’d love to see it.
He achieved his goal of turning the conversation from discussing actual relevant threats, to whatever thing of the day looks to show the left being just as bad as the nutjobs. Except it doesn't. It's why it is not worth engaging his points. They are a distraction. Discussing them in rational terms is what he wants, because it changes the conversation. Better to just call him out every time he does it.

I don't know, the negative pricing seems to be made up reason to exhibit this type of "frustration". Do you think that guy even knew about it? Understood the (extremely temporary) cause? That Freeland had nothing to do with it?
Border-line criminal behaviour needs to be called out. It seems that politicians of all stripes have rightfully condemned this. No reason to make excuses.

At the end he is getting into a Dodge 3500, what am I feeling bad for him for? His inability to buy a shirt becuase he is truck-poor? You say "but..." There is no excuse for that, Freeland has done nothing to affect his life. She is incredibly committed to our country, about a billion times more educated than this meathead, and has earned the respect to do the job. I'd like to see this troglodyte stand up to Putin. He's an embarrassment to our province and our country.

Ya, but just wait until you see the video of a radical lefty accosting Professor Sweet for his half-baked ideas:

Still don't understand the cult of personality that Trump has built. He's always been an absolutely terrible businessman (like, how do you bankrupt a CASINO?), corrupt, morally reprehensible human being that basically is the puss-swollen, mouth-breathing version of the National Enquirer. He says populist #### to appeal to the lowest common denominator, and constantly stokes the flames of bigotry, misogyny and racism - which galvanizes society's worst trolls and goblins from their hiding places (huh - guess I just answered my own inquiry there).
How does one look at him and be like, 'yep, that's someone I like and want to lead me'? All it takes is a five-second Google search to find out how reprehensible he is and unfit for office he is. ####ing disgusting.

Trump was made powerful by the people who talk about him at every opportunity they get.

I still remember watching the apprentice when it first came out. I was like 14 or something. I thought it was pretty good! But my Dad ####ing hated it. He was always asking why anyone on earth would work for someone who had done two chapter 11s and defrauded hundreds of people, and who didn't seem to have the mental faculties to realize how insanely dumb those moves were. That sort of snapped me out of it and by the next episode I was already thinking about how ####ing dumb trump sounded any time he opened his mouth.
This anecdote is all to say that the allure must be couched in the child like naivety of the bulk of his current followers. And once they were backed into trusting him as a business mogul, they were then convinced that attacks on this status were nothing more than petty rivals showing their true colors; the proof of his success is evident by his ridiculously pompous lavishness. The Bankruptcies become creative financial ploys to screw the real societal problem- the bankers!
It's a hole to fall into, and those that fall in don't have the skills to climb out. Thus, they keep digging.

I think most of this is easy to figure out. Follow the money, these people have various digital platforms to post on that generate an income and probably believe they are building some sort of brand. I would doubt that buddy has an actual job, his job is to act like an ass**** to generate traffic and hits. The bigger the shock value the better. And guess what? It is going to get worse.

I never mentioned that guy in my post except to say that he was wrong to do that. That is defending him?
I'm talking about the general discontent in Alberta and where that comes from, what the OP was talking about. OP asked why we people are mad in AB. I answered and said if the issues affected him more directly, he would be mad to, and might react differently (hopefully not to the extremes you obsess over). It's human nature, someone mentioned the lobster riots in NS. Perfect example of what happens when your livelihood is messed with.
