Just based on the Jones and Dumoulin trades this really does seem like an opportune time to really cash in huge on Andersson.
It's a sellers market and he would be by far and away the most valuable asset available.

If Jones is getting a first and a young NHL-calibre goalie, and Dumoulin is getting a 2nd and a prospect... Andersson should have some pretty crazy value right now by these metrics.

And at 50% retained he costs 2.25M get another team involved for a 5th at 75% and he is practically free.

Sharks were offered a 2nd and Drury from Carolina last year for Ferraro and turned it down.
They haven't got that offer since. Draft picks on the table in current offers. Oilers, Stars, Jets, Leafs, Kings among teams who have inquired (not all have put in an offer).

Do the prices look higher than last year because the 2025 draft class is perceived to be weaker?

If the Flames are as hot for Rantanen as all the smoke suggests, and in the (highly unlikely) scenario they can convince him to sign an extension, there seems to me to be a pretty compelling hockey trade to be made between Calgary and Carolina.
Would Anderson, Vladar ++ be enough for Carolina?

Doesn’t seem like a great deal for the flames imo…. Just trade Rasmus for a haul, keep the ++ and then go hard after rantanen in the summer. If we don’t get him, oh well

To rent Rantanen for two months...? please no.
Flames' smoke relates to them going after him in the offseason if he becomes a UFA.

I think there is a good chance that the Stars are the team that will land Rantanen. They actually have a good chance to resign him next year as well with Benn coming off the books. Flames could help with further salary retention as well.

This makes sense to me. They need an impact player more than a guy like Rasmus.

Luke Kunin: Sharks ask is a 2nd. Offer on the table right now is a 4th. Sharks waiting to make that move closer to what their ask is.
Nico Sturm: All but gone tomorrow. Not sure of the return but a team has put in an offer.
Unrelated news: If they pick #1, Schaefer will be their choice.

If he has gone this far I think he tests the market. Lots of team will have space that probably are ready to compete like the Ducks and Sharks.

I specifically said it becomes compelling only if the Flames can convince Rantanen to sign an extension (which is, obviously, highly unlikely).

I don't see how Rasmus' value could ever be higher. #3D for 2.25m for two playoff runs is ridiculous. Cmon Conroy, turn him into a potential #1C.

Asked this before but wondering again after the Sharks Schaefer note. Lets say the sharks are picking 2/3 and Misa is there. They missed on Schaefer at 1 and offer the pick for Parekh. Do you take it?

They can’t go #1 though can they? I thought they changed the lottery rules that you can’t have back to back 1OA

The rules are that you can't win more than twice in a 5 year span.
And that's for the 1st overall pick only. If a team finishes 14 and wins the lottery to draft 4th, that doesn't count against the 2 in 5 years.

And apparently the rule is "you cant move up more than twice". So winning the pick as the bottom seed doesnt count....
