To be fair, Kane's hype has always been much higher than his actual performance
I think there's always this lingering expectation that he will score 40 goals

Dorion returned to Ottawa on Tuesday from the road trip and has been huddled with his scouting staff at the rink working the phones.
A league executive told this newspaper on Wednesday that every team contending for a playoff spot will call the Senators about Stone. It’s believed the Winnipeg Jets are the leading contender for the 26-year-old winger, but the St. Louis Blues are also expected to make a call.
A report on Thursday indicated the Calgary Flames would be interested, but they’d want the opportunity to sign Stone to an extension. There were three scouts from the Jets in the building to see the Senators in New Jersey, but if they were there to see Stone or Duchene, then they got no new information.

The thing about Simmonds is I think his market has come to a halt,” said Friedman. “Every time I check in on the Simmonds market, I keep hearing, ‘Wait until the Ottawa guys, wait until Panarin, wait until all of that stuff.’
“I think San Jose would love to steal a guy like Wayne Simmonds. I think Boston would love to steal a guy like Wayne Simmonds. Would Philly deal with Pittsburgh? I don’t know. Calgary too.
“I guarantee to you that there’s some GM out there, or two, saying, ‘I’m going to steal Wayne Simmonds.’”

Appearing on the NHL Network, Friedman linked Rangers winger Mats Zuccarello to the Flames and Dallas Stars. Regarding trade speculation about winger Chris Kreider, Friedman said the Rangers have set a high asking price because he’s signed through next season.

Looks like Stone and Dzingel are officially on the market
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Not a big surprise considering what happened last night, but, word is OTT put Mark Stone on the market after the game in NJ. Ryan Dzingel also became available yesterday.

Lord, I will puke if we trade anyone of our 4 young D-men for a rental or an older guy like Zuccarello/Simmonds.

Simmonds his having a pretty bad season. Somehow I feel the only "steal" involved in a Simmonds trade will be the Flyers getting a high draft pick or solid asset for a declining asset.

I feel like the only roster players that have a slight chance at being moved at the deadline are Neal and Frolik. Probably we will add without subtracting anyone from the roster

IMO - no rookies will move for a pure rental. Pick(s) only in that case. If we see Dube or Kylington go it will be for a player that will have term or with an agreement in place to sign that player once they're traded here.

you wont have to puke. I cant think of any trades in recent memory where top prospects were traded for old rentals. B Prospects get traded for old rentals. Top prospects get traded for good players with term left on their contract.

If that deal would get it done, Stone would have been playing for the Flames for some time.
Other teams would top that.

I’d rather have Simmonds than Stone only because the acquisition cost would be lower

Instead of any package going to Ottawa for stone that includes one of our young D, I would prefer something built around:
Dube, Brodie + 1st
That to me is just about fair and then maybe there is a conditional 2020 2nd rounder thrown in if stone resigns with calgary.
To me That makes the most sense but it really hinges on both being able to resign him next year and if his brother will be back in time to play some Right D for the playoffs (or if we can find someone else.
Other issues with stone long term are the squeeze means frolik and Michael stone are both likely out.

Friedman on 960:
Dzingel went on the market before the Sens game. Stone went on the market after the game.
got told yesterday Duchene to Nashville hit a snag - whatever someone asked for scuttled it
Islanders, Columbus is in,
Doug McLean says Montreal is in which means they are looking to extend him
Ottawa's offer of 5 or 6 years for $10.5 AAV (ballpark) made Stone think
if Calgary wants to sign him, that is probably the starting point (according to Friedman)
structure is an issue, signing bonuses
wouldn't be surprised if Treliving was also looking at Kreider last night in New York
Rangers are asking a lot of Kreider
doesn't think McQuaid is a fit for the Flames because they are looking for a lefty not a righty
Hayes after Duchene is the best center on the market, he is going to get a lot of attention for teams that miss out on Duchene
Rangers are looking for a 2nd and prospect for Zuccarello, if Flames get him they will get a good player
Flames will do nothing until they know about Stone.
Winnipeg said the ask is too high.
Has heard the report of the 4 assets ask, but depends what you put into it.
Really believes that Calgary can make the deal happen.
guys who know stone say he is not a high maintenance guy, laid back
market for Panarin is softer than Columbus hoped
if Nashville doesn't get Duchene, they will go after something big, could see them trying for Panarin

If 10.5M AAV is the starting point, then I'm not entertaining that discussion any further.
Even if he comes down to a more reasonable number, that would shatter the salary makeup of the team and even though UFA vs RFA are not true comparables, it would impact the Tkachuk negotiation.
When you parachute a guy in and give him that much more money than the core, that is a huge risk to team chemistry
