I’d argue they are playing their game - 2nd fewest shots allowed should equate to better results than 15th in goals against.
All the mental toughness in the world can’t help you when your goalie’s save percentage is so low it’s next to dinosaur bones.

There are a lot of high danger chances being given up. Flames may not give up many shots but what they do give up are grade A chances.

Oettenger was also the backup the year prior after Bishop got hurt. The Stars didn't call him up late last season with no NHL experience hoping for him to get them into the playoffs.
Like I said, I'm all for them seeing what they have at one point this season. I think they should have gave him his debut last year against the Jets. Just not as a Hail Mary attempt to save the season.

I'd agree with this. Goalies suck but the team does hang them out to dry way too frequently.

I don't think its a hail mary attempt by playing Wolf when all you're asking from him is to do his job and simply be average. That is in contrast to the tire fire currently in net.
The Flames lost last night to Laurent Brossoit. LOL. If that guy can play in the NHL then Wolf deserves a start. People need to check around the league at the utter trash that is getting NHL starts.

Markstrom flops down to his knees as soon as the puck gets near him. So really, Wolf would be a foot taller than Marskstrom.

Who cares - this is the NHL. Stop the puck.
NHL goalies should be able to make some big saves when they make $6M a year and finished second in Vezina voting 8 months ago.
Besides, it’s not even the high danger chances that kill them - it’s the .850 save percentage on medium danger chances.
What’s the excuse for that?

Calling up Wolf doesn’t mean they expect him to lead them anywhere.
If they keep rubbing 25 and 80 out there, they assuredly will not make the playoffs.
If they start Wolf, they might.
More importantly, they’ll get valuable insight to where he’s at.
If you polled the team privately, I bet over 80% want the kid to get his shot. They saw what Oettinger did last year, they see what he’s doing every night for the Wranglers, and they KNOW with bone-deep certainty the guys on the big club can’t get it done.
Let him play.

With Knight going into the NHLPA assistance program, I wonder if Florida puts in a waivers claim for Chris Driedger, who Seattle put on waivers today, just to get them through the season. He had pretty good number in Florida a couple of years ago.

What happened to Knight, did the Florida life catch up with him?

It snows a lot in Florida. I had a lifelong friend who moved from Calgary to Florida and recently he called me and said he needed help. Went with him to one of his meetings and was told by a nurse that young people moving to Florida from other parts of US/Canada ending up with substance abuse issues is nothing new. It's the sad reality of Florida.

He was put on waivers yesterday and cleared today.
Keep in mind, Driedger hasn't played a game since the World Championships last year due to an ACL injury. It sounds like he's getting ready to return and the Kraken have sent him down to get into game shape, so he wasn't likely a viable option for Florida as a replacement for Knight.

Not sure how sitting on the bench as a backup helps with development, other then getting NHL shots in practice. I would argue playing in the AHL as the starter is more helpful then being a back up for an entire season.
At some point we need to do something if they are not sellers and trying to get in. and the #1 thing we need is Goaltending, does not need to be elite, needs to be league average. So if they don't want to play Wolfe, they need to trade for a goalie. IMO until you see if Wolfe can play that is a terrible idea, unless someone is going to take Markstrom in that trade.
