Well I was basing it one which one they'd likely give up. I see them giving up Perry long before getzlaf.

If Perry was a UFA, and wanted $6M for the next three years, I would not be in the slightest bit interested. Actually giving up assets as well? No thank you.

Yeah, that's a more clear way of putting it that pushes me more towards no.

I was already kind of leaning towards seeing what Kane would cost in free agency instead. Unfortunately Kane's production on the Sharks has likely pushed him into highly sought after status July 1st, which means the usual dumb offers that are deeply regretted as early as the very first season.

If you could pick Kane up for $6-$6.5/ for 3 to 4 years I'd do it. Instead we may very well see $7-$7.5 over 5 or 6 years.

And just one more idea for thought (I figured since I ridicule so many trade proposals, I may as well stick my own neck out there).

We just traded for Hamonic and paid a big price, but Toronto is going to be all in on acquiring a Hamonic like D-man this summer after perusing him til the bitter end last summer and struggling defensively this playoffs.

What if Toronto was an eager, willing trade partner for a forward if our D-man offer went from an offensive guy that they aren't desperate to upgrade to Hamonic, the guy they clearly wanted?

I get that we could be losing value from acquisition cost to a new trade, but if he's the best trade chip for a specific team willing to deal a young forward, then he's the best trade chip and maybe you go for it?

Nylander for Hamonic + D prospect?

Plus, Andersson slides a lot more easily into Hamonic's spot than other D-men on our roster and he's almost guaranteed to make the team next season.

If your team is better overall because you trade Hamonic, great. I don't think you refrain because you paid more last year. But I do think you are creating a hole to fill another one. I also think it's easier to fill a winger spot than what Hamonic gives you.

What about Andersson? That's kind of where I was headed with that trade idea. Plus, you're going to open up a hole no matter where you trade from because we lack picks.

Kane most likely stays in San Jose. Both parties have a good relationship and the dressing room can handle a personality like Kane.

Anderssen isn't really a Hamonic. Hamonic is probably the best defensive defenceman on the team, or maybe a close second to Gio. Whereas if you trade Brodie, I'm comfortable with a kid stepping up. I think almost anyone (eg Kulak) can play with Hamonic and be pretty safe. Anderssen and Brodie would be scary. Brodie and Stone would be scary (I know they were OK for a while two seasons ago). And if you play those guys together you have Kulak with a rookie. Me no likey.

The San Jose radio guys seemed to think he wasn't re-signing (they talked about how San Jose didn't want to give up the first ).

San Jose probably wants to evaluate where they're headed after this season. The Vegas series likely has some bearing on that.

They staved off rebuilding with some key moves (including Kane), but you have to think there's at least some discussion amongst management as they've also shown sides of slipping, and if so they likely won't want to lay down a huge contract for Kane if they turn into a non-playoff team.

However, they still have some great players even subtracting Marleau and Thornton, I mean, hell that's the team we're watching right now in the playoffs.

Tough decision but I'm willing to bet their call on signing Kane has a lot more to do with whether they want to rebuild/retool than having to upgrade their 2nd round pick to a first, as it will be a fairly late 1st.

If they think Kane is the right call going forward that pick won't mean much to them. Remember the pick is upgraded, so it's not like they're literally paying a first out of nowhere to sign him.

Perry has lost his effect. San Jose didn’t care when he tried to pull his goin act. He does it on purpose to drag both teams into a brawl. It doesn’t work. Teams know it’s coming and just have a small scrum before ignoring it. Then they just wait for his inevitable penalty and score on them. The refs know it’s coming too. Perry is useless at this point and I never want him in a flames jersey.

I mean, I totally respect passing on him, and I think I'm there too. But let's be fair about it, 19 goals, 53 points last year and 17 goals and 49 points in 71 games played this year.

Not sure the pro rated total but he's still producing at basically a 20 goal/50 point pace which is not insignificant at all. Just likely not worth $6.5-$7mil plus the asset to trade.

I agree, the price is just too high on him. One of those guys who's value would be higher based on reputation

I can't see Perry waiving his NMC to come to Calgary anyhow.

Hear me out.

Is there any way we could upgrade our goalie on the fly by helping out another team out of our conference?

Like I'm talking generic

Flames trade to Buffalo:
- Smith
- Gilles/Rittich/Parsons (Pick one)
-2018 3rd pick

Sabres then trade to New York:
-Gilles, Rittich, or Parsons
-Lehner
-2018 3rd pick (Cgy or Buf)

Rangers trade to Calgary:
Lundquivst

My thinking behind this is if Buffalo wants to be a competitive team next year, and the Rangers are committing to a fill rebuild Lunquivst wants to chase a cup maybe.

Flames
In: Lundquivst
Out: Gilles, Rittich or Parsons, 3rd(2018 74 overall pick)+ M. Smith

Buffalo
In: M. Smith, 3rd(2018 74 overall pick)
Out: Gilles, Rittich, or Parsons, 3rd( 2018 63 overall pick)+ Lehner

NYR
In: Gilles, Rittich, or Parsons, 3rd( 2018 63 overall pick)+ Lehner
Out: Lundquivst

Flames trade the most get the best.
Sabres trade to upgrade Lehner to Smith.
Rangers trade for the future.

Edit: Not really a trade rumour just a discussion point and idea
