Three Russian hypersonic missile engineers apparently have been charged with treason over the past year for having spoken at conferences and published papers. Pootin looking for scapegoats in a move that will surely help improve future Russian missile tech.

Better late than never. It's in everyone's interest to cover Ukraine in an iron dome of air defense, especially now with UA forces advancing on the enemy.
I like the part where he says the pre-requisite for talks is Russian withdrawal. THAT is leadership, albeit one year late.

I was under the impression that specific missiles from Russia are one of the only pieces in the Russian arsenal that NATO (USA) has no real defensive capabilities for?? I don't know if it was the hypersonic ones that were recently launched or if something has changed from then.

Odds are if its coming out in the media that the US can't defend against something - someone is likely looking to get money to build something very expensive.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Russia doesn't have any tech that the US/NATO can't counter.

That, but to be fair it's not like they've been able to test these scenarios, and the Russians have probably exaggerated their claims about their technology.

If that is the case than Ukraine should be totally attacking Moscow.

The kinzhal is just an air launched ballistic missile, gliders are harder to stop since they don’t travel in a parabola

Kinzhals are indeed the missiles in question. Putin boasted about them at the start of the war and their use was made a big deal. While they are not hypersonic glider missiles (what the US has been looking to achieve) they do present a very real threat.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-60806151
https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/22/europ...hnk/index.html
Quote:
In March, US President Joe Biden confirmed Russia’s use of the Kinzhal missile, describing it as “a consequential weapon … it’s almost impossible to stop it. There’s a reason they’re using it.”
|
Russian S-300 SAMs (ones that Ukraine utilizes) are unable to intercept Kinzhals (this from March 2023)
https://apnews.com/article/ukraine-r...5381ca5fdee66a
Quote:
According to Zaluzhnyi, those missiles included six hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, the most advanced weapons in the Russian arsenal. Ukrainian air force spokesman Yurii Ihnat emphasized that Ukraine lacks assets to intercept the Kinzhal and the older Kh-22 missiles that were also used in Thursday’s strikes.
|
And quite frankly, at least publicly, the US did not know that their systems could repel Kinzhals.
Kinzhals are a very new weapon, and on paper at least, US systems have not been tested against such weapons. Luckily for the US (and the world), Putin's stupidity has allowed the US to get real war data testing, and their 40 year old Patriot system that just recently got distributed in Ukraine has surpassed all expectations to Putin's chagrin.
Effectively, the last few days have huge repercussions. The Kinzhals were supposed to be Putin's ace in a nuclear war. A way to harm NATO that could not be easily countered. And the US's 40 year old system just destroyed a wave of them with only a scratch from debris.
The emperor has no clothes.

There was a video somewhere in this thread with a bunch of talking heads at RT. They were stomping their feet and saying that Britain should be in fear, Russia will launch a hypersonic missile and sink them into the ocean in 6 minutes and there is nothing they can do. Wonder what those whack jobs are saying now.

Medvedev was always saying how they'd destroy the Hague before they even know what hit them because they indicted his dear leader.
Don't worry Medo, you'll be there with him.
