Or another way of saying it,

The NDP will have lower business taxes than Ralph Klein, the lowest in Canada of all provinces, despite the modest increase.

God people are stupid.

It's really too bad you guys don't have a viable 3rd party to vote for.

Why? What’s wrong with the NDP exactly? So similar to moderate ALberta conservative governments of the past, and sitting basically Center/center-right on the political spectrum. Why do “you guys” aka albertans need a third option exactly?

The two current parties seem to be really polarizing people, plus the comments some have made about picking the least poor option in this election. It sounds like a lot of people are going into the election plugging their nose while voting and that many people are not overjoyed with either of them. It seems like some people don't like the NDP for their reasons, but will still pick them over the UCP because of their extreme fringe elements. Just saying, it would not be a bad thing if there was something in between that could bridge that some how.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the NDP, but there isn't anything wrong with not liking them either.

Thanks for the clarification. I feel like the people who are holding their nose, are traditional conservatives that are lending their vote to the NDP. I think we can agree that these people may indeed like a third option that is between the NDP and UCP on the spectrum.

I was initially classified in this category. I voted UCP last election. I can’t stand this version of the UCP, but honestly once I spent some time (it didn’t take much) understanding what the ANDP actually is, and looking closer at their policy, I realized that they are, in fact, the moderate conservative option. I don’t agree with everything they want to do (or everything they did last time in power) but the vast majority of their platform aligns with my socially progressive and fiscally conservative values pretty well actually.

I just feel that a number of albertans just don’t quite realize that the NDP (god forbid lol) is actually a Conservative Party in a lot of ways. They are pretty good.

The UCP ads with the generic rural cowboy farmer guy followed by a token minority (different in each ad) threatening to leave Alberta if Notley is elected are pretty weak.

Just as weak as the posters in this thread saying they will leave if Smith wins?

I'm sure the cowboy farmer has another farm lined up and ready to go in another province. But at least that province will likely have no carbon tax

This post was a while back but I just saw this article..

It’s not gonna sway me at all but things like this is probably why there is still hesitancy to vote NDP. That alone is going to make a ton of people view the NDP as they always have and not vote for them.

Quote:
Van Tigham released Wild Roses are Worth It in 2021 and in a YouTube interview last May, he shared his frustration over Alberta developing a reputation of being "entitled, grabby, resource exploiters."

He also wrote about our "addiction to a doomed and destructive energy source."
"An addict doesn't want to face reality," he wrote. "He or she just wants to know there will be a next fix. There will be. We're already in that fix. Oil sucks. And we're the suckers."

In another section, he wrote, "Alberta's enslaved landscapes were never unemployed to start with. And most of the jobs we force them to do impair their ability to do their real work. That's how slavery works; it makes bosses rich by stealing the energies of their slaves."

That's basically a "look in the mirror" comment, something we know Albertans don't want to hear.

As weak as posting something without reading it, and then ignoring direct follow up questions, that weak

To be totally honest, as a left wing voter I am feeling orphaned too. The NDP imo have moved right of center and I get it.. if you want to be elected you need to cater to the majority, but it leaves a hole on the left wing spectrum. I feel like the political shift mirrors the US with the Republicans being bat#### crazy and the "left wing" democrats actually being right wing.

Same reason we need a 3rd party to vote for federally. So we aren't stuck with an entrenched bad government and an opposition that's not competent enough enough to unseat them.

We used to. Conservatives need to stop letting far right parties take them over. They get played like dummies every time.

This is the same attitude why a strong third party will likely never happen in Alberta. The third parties that are out there aren't 'sophisticated', 'well-funded', or have enough 'good policies' for people to consider them - by their own individual standards.

At least, that's what most Albertans will say when asked about third parties that do exist and have never looked at their policy platforms.

Nothing will ever be perfectly aligned with their values so therefore it's all #####e.

Which always circles the conversation back to the main issue being FPTP and people feeling their vote counts for nothing unless it is for one of the main parties. And I don't understand the federal comment as we have 3 parties.
