I can’t believe how ridiculous it is that they have 3 guys like Stone, Duchene and to a slightly lesser extent Dzingel all available UFA’s at the end of the year in a season that’s been their worst in a decade all while not even having their 1st rounder in the lose for Hughes sweepstakes. If I was a Sens fan I’d be underground right now dreading the deadline and dreading the draft.

personally, i'd be surprised if Calgary pulls off one tier one deal (Stone/Duchene/Panarin/Bob/Hoffman) Let alone a tier one and tier two without majorly impacting the team's chemistry and prospect base.
someone like Johansson/Dzingle/Nyquist is the top end, imo, of what BT will do.
I like this team where it is and believe that chemistry is really important, and messing with it too much is not warranted considering this team stands alone in 1st in the west and the prices being thrown around

This deadline reeks of the 2014 situation, where teams were sitting on their hands waiting to see what was happening with Kesler, and Vancouver pooched the whole league at the 11th hour by doing nothing.

Wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Their management team decides that they’re finally going to prove themselves as competent negotiators and wind up with nothing as a result.

Last time that happened it was Vanek that stalled the market and in the last minute, we were offered a 3rd for Cammy. If this goes to the last minute again, I suspect the 2nd tier players will be traded for low value as there wont be time for bidding wars.

This scenario could end up benefiting the Flames

There is a precedent for this with this team. Think back to Vegas trying to get Karlsson until the last second last year and settling for nothing while Vegas overpaid for Tatar.
A lot of pain for Ottawa (including Hoffman drama) likely could have been avoided if they were competent enough to make that deal.

So what do we do if the Jets land Stone/Duchene, they would definitely have a better team on paper. They arguably already are the better team anyway.

What do we do? Keep playing hockey and try to score more goals then we give up.

They are not the better team right now, don't sell us short. If they land a big fish that is fine, I still like our chances of coming out of the West. TB is a whole other monster though...

Ottawa would be best served to wait till at least Sunday.
Remember what our GM got for Iginla and Bouwmeester? Both were early trades.

Haven't we been ahead of them for most of the season? I think we're the better team, but I agree with your core point. I would much rather we acquire one than our rivals in the wc acquire one.
I think we need one to beat Tampa in the finals.

Well you sure as hell don’t try to one-up them in an arms race if you feel they already have the better team (which they don’t, the Jets are frauds).
You pick your guys, make the offers you can live with, and move on without worrying about what anyone else is doing. This team isn’t in any sort of dire straits and major changes (i.e. goaltending) will be coming in the summer.

Don't we blow out the Jets multiple times a season?

While Stone and Duchene would be terrific additions, I'm setting the bar at a lower tiered player like Zuccarello and Hayes. Far cheaper and could be just as useful. Plus it will hurt less of a player like that chooses not to sigh an extension.
