To Philadelphia:
Gaudreau ($1 million retained)
2nd round pick
3rd round pick

To Columbus:
Frost

Who says no? (No idea if it works cap-wise)

I know the flyers could have had Gaudreau for nothing as a UFA two summers ago, but now they could get him at a discount (due to salary retention) and gain some picks due to taking on the cap dump. A move like this could work for the flyers if it goes either way… if he does not bounce back, they gained some picks as part of their rebuild. If he does bounce back, they reward their teams unexpectedly good start and it could lead to a playoff spot.
Probably Columbus. Even if they think it makes sense how often do teams admit they made a mistake that big. Also would likely mean that Jarmo had to be fired, how can the owners let him spend a 2nd and 3rd round pick to get rid of a guy he just signed, especially after everything else going on under him.

Nice seeing DeSimone, Greer, Markstrom, Coleman, Backlund, Duehr, Zary, Pospisil, and Huberdeau have so much fun at the Alberta Children's Hospital where they lost for the 40th straight time.

Interesting that none of the big name pending UFAs were there (Lindholm, Hanifin, Zadorov, Hanifin). A big grain of salt. Public events can be tough when your status is up in the air.

I thought it came out that Gaudreau did not want to be in Philadelphia or NJ because him and his wife wanted to be close to their families but not too close?

He didn't want to be in NJ, but that may have been partly because he didn't want to sign with the archrival of his hometown team. Philly never made him an offer. I understand that took him by surprise.

All the stated reasons why he was so happy to land in Columbus read like pure spin now.

If I was management for the Flames, I would not include any of the UFA's in anything like that. They have showed their desire to move on from the team, so let the guys who want to be there represent the team in every capacity.

Where are they going to replace Oshie and Kuznetsov without spending a dime to replace their roster spots and still be in win now mode? By that point you're going to have a 39 year old Ovechkin and .... Lindholm? Is that win now?

Makes very little sense.
The Capitals aren’t in Win Now mode, they’re in “get ovi the goals record” mode.

Presumably Lindholm would help with that.

Even if that didn't materialize, that is exactly how it should be sold to Kek. And all we want back is a few assets, perhaps an AHL player by the name of Kent Johnson...

From what I am hearing don't expect any movement on players with maybe the exception of Zadorov until after the Christmas break. Management wants to give this group a longer look and knew there would be some growing pains under Huska and the change in systems. That is what I am hearing, I am sure if Conroy got an offer that knocked his socks off that might change things or if the team goes on a large skid but what I have been told is Christmas break.

As long as the contract extensions/talks are still off the table for both Lindholm and Hanifin from both parties, Conroy will still be forced to move them so fine by me, but still another red-flag decision from this management group, once again getting sucked into this team (despite the recent turn-around literally being on the backs of Zary & Pospisil).

This is exactly why I struggle to cheer for Flames wins. Management and/or ownership seem to have no realistic view about how to build a real Cup contender. It would be so Flames to overpay Lindholm and Hanifin well into their 30s to play mediocre, boring hockey.

We are going to see some big point drop offs this year.

Gaudreau is on pace for 25 points that's almost a 50 point fall.
Tkachuk is in pace for 11 goals and 80 points that's 29 point fall and 30 goals.

McDavid is on pace for 74 points. That is a 79 point fall lol.

So, no plan and an inability to make a commitment to a direction? Just another year of "Flames hockey."

The Xmas break part is no big deal. Probably hard to make a trade before then anyways. Concerning is the “ see what we have”. Just say they go on a heater , does that mean they try and convince hanifin to sign that ridiculous contract? Conroy got lucky that hanifin walked away.

The Blue Jackets are such a mess right now you wonder if Jarmo even has the green light to make any big moves. If the owner is leaning to a house cleaning at the end of the season, it would be wise to just ride the season out.

Gross. Lindholm is looking checked out and Hanifin turned down a massive contract. Just ship them out.

Only thing I don't like about this is if the team goes on a heater and they attempt to keep the players.

A rebuild is needed, and no matter how close we are to getting in the Flames need to maintain the same mindset.

Have to hope that panic starts to set in amongst NHL GMs. It’s thanksgiving week and that’s the timeline that insiders use to benchmark playoff aspirations. If you aren’t in a playoff position by this time, teams might sense some urgency to add and make a deal to get on a roll.

Have to wonder if Minnesota is one of those teams. They’ve needed a center since forever. Guerin isn’t happy either.
