Apparently Laine's a healthy scratch today.
Lindholm + Hanifin for Laine + Johnston + Boqvist?
I believe this washes cap out reasonably well. Obviously lots of risk for them if the two going don't/aren't signed, but realistically, none of their outgoing players have been impactful for them, whereas Lindholm/Hanifin stabilizes and could potentially make them competitive (I assume that's what they're going for given the last couple of years though they still stink)
Zary + Kadri + Pospisil
Huberdeau + Johnston + Laine (bit of a potential nightmare this one)
Mangiapane + Backlund + Coleman
Greer + Dube + Duehr
Ruzicka (just can't seem to put it together consistently)
Weegar + Andersson
Zadorov + Tanev
Boqvist + DeSimone
It's a bit of a middling/inbetween move for us I feel. Laine could stink but would then only have a couple of years left but maybe able to spark Huberdeau. Otherwise, the other two are young and have potential to fill that rebuild mold I feel?

No thanks to Laine; one of my most despised players in the NHL. He's almost Yakupov like in his ego and lack of showing up.
Even if he's negative value as a take on to get good prospects, I just wouldn't feel good about him in a Flames jersey.

He would help with the rebuild by sniping on our own goalie though.

Yakupov was a glass cannon.
If he wasn't a top line RW, there was no point in drafting him.

The Blue Jackets are such a joke right now, their star wingers are not the biggest issues on the team right now. They literally had Patrik Laine slotting at center because their center depth is so bad. They need to fix their defense and centermen first and foremost.
Find a few guys who can kill a play, guys who can win some puck battles and guys who have the poise to make a play to forward their transition. It’s time for Kekalainen to take a bow, his roster is a complete mess.
There would be an endless number of fire the GM threads if the team had Huberdeau playing center because the team was that pathetic up the middle.

Yeah CLB is such a natural fit for Lindholm. That's where he should go.

He would help, but the Blue Jackets need a full teardown. Gudbranson was one of their better dmen I noticed which is a scary thought. He was the Flames’ bottom pairing guy and that’s probably where he should ideally be slotted.

I would love that deal, I think Frost has some serious upside. Not sure why Philly does it though, they are going nowhere.

Laine reminds me so much of Alexander Semin. All the offensive talent in the world yet the poor effort level and lack of consistency always kept him from being the superstar he could have been. Every team that had him thought they could fix him and get what they needed out of him but it never seemed to work no matter where he went.

Wonder if the flyers would be a fit for Gaudreau if the jackets look to offload him? Right now, he might be pretty much a cap dump and player that could be a decent bet for a bounce back in a better situation. The flyers have been better than expected this year so they might be willing to add a player like Gaudreau under the right circumstance.
To Philadelphia:
Gaudreau ($1 million retained)
2nd round pick
3rd round pick
To Columbus:
Frost
Who says no? (No idea if it works cap-wise)
I know the flyers could have had Gaudreau for nothing as a UFA two summers ago, but now they could get him at a discount (due to salary retention) and gain some picks due to taking on the cap dump. A move like this could work for the flyers if it goes either way… if he does not bounce back, they gained some picks as part of their rebuild. If he does bounce back, they reward their teams unexpectedly good start and it could lead to a playoff spot.

Nobody is going to take on your bad FA signings unless you take theirs
That go with Gaudreau, Huberdeau, Kadri…etc

That’s weird. I remember Flames fans being overjoyed that we landed Tkachuk in that draft

I wasn't one of those peoples.
I was also happy when he was traded.
I was very wrong.
