Just watched Sinners, and while I enjoyed it, it has the cardinal sin of many passion projects: there's way too many ideas in it, the story has so many setups with no real payoff, and just overall it was a bit of a mess. An entertaining mess, but still a mess. 3/5 for me.
I'm also 90% sure the plot has been heavily rewritten, because there's just pieces that seem to be very much missing...
Spoiler!
...for example they literally say there's gonna be a blues battle, and it's obviously set up when the vampires show up playing music and with all the music themes, but then the musical side is basically just dropped by the end of the film.

Not a bad cast including Steve Carrell who I like.
Interesting concept with everything going on in tech and politically but script was terribly weak.
Would not recommend.
I liked it!
It had the slapdashery of a movie being made in the course of a couple of weeks, for sure. But I thought the characters were great and the satirical concept really worked.
Luckily, The Ritual is garbage. But it's noxious, like a tire fire that, if ignored, could spark a human tragedy going on for years or even centuries. So instead of ignorance, let's be better: let's look the Devil right in the face, and deal with what makes The Ritual a steaming pile of belching trash, deserving of its own exclusion zone at least the size of Chernobyl's.
I agree with the sentiment, but the writer clearly suffers from internet poisoning. That much hyperbolic loathing just made the thing borderline unreadable. Reads like someone trying to top everyone on Twitter.
Not sure where to post this but CNN aired a live broadcast today of the George Clooney Broadway play “Goodnight and Goodluck” and I forgot to set the PVR.
They don’t seem to be planning to run it again.
If anyone might have taped it and can burn a DVD or stick I would buy it.
I watched "Drop" (see here) on the weekend. Went in skeptical, but I enjoyed it. Its a well-made genre film. It requires some suspension of disbelief, but in exchange, it takes you on a pretty fun and suspense-filled ride.

Just finished Predator - Killer of Killers on Disney+
WOW. This is a must watch. I already had high expectations before, from reading about it, and i'm still blown away. Animation is perfection, storyboard is amazing, and the pacing is wonderful.
The Japanese arc was my favorite for sure.

I watched The Accountant 2 on Prime. It was enjoyable, I really liked the first one. Not what I would call deep on the plot side but I am a fan of John Bernthal in this sort of role.

Yeah, there was a lot more Accounting coolness in the first one, the second one relies more heavily on casual gunplay.

Yeah felt a bit long and the movie itself wasn't nearly the best one in the franchise, it felt more like a stunts finale and every stunt scene was just 20% too long.
However the sub scene really gripped me, I liked that more than the airplane one (which was crazy).
And overall it was fun and a decent end to everything.
I think the craziest thing is to compare him from the start to the end of his movies. Now that makes me feel old.

Watched the new Nic Cage movie The Surfer. Pretty cool 70s-style Ozploitation thriller with Cage playing a divorced father who returns to the small coastal Australian town where he grew up to purchase his childhood home and take his son surfing at the beach where he spent time as a kid. While there he encounters the local surfer gang who don't take kindly to outsiders on their beach. You think it's going one way, and then it takes a couple of unexpected turns. I liked it. Cage is terrific, as is the guy who plays the leader of the surf gang.
Also insert conspiracy theory about why there aren't more AI taking over the world movies.
My kid is finally old enough to watch the Matrix, and he's a bit sketched out about it all lol
that being said, i also went to watch Mission Impossible too, and thought it was a bit long too. but still really entertaining. That sub scene had my palms sweaty though. that was really intense

Two 50+ year old men arguing over a surf spot? Sounds awful. It has Cage in it though, so I'll definitely check it out.

I find it fascinating that Jon Voight was 58 in MI1.

Not shocking but the new Karate Kid movie stiiiinks.
Just horrible.
Not surprising. Thanks for taking one for the team.
Cobra Kai was cheesy, predictable and cringey. But Johnny's character was fun and I went along for the ride as they milked every last piece of nostalgia possible from the franchise.
Time to let it be. Surely there are a million possible ideas out there for an underdog movie without going back to the same well.
