Wasn't a lot of positivity from him.
Seeing stuff like this makes me sad. I don't leave any morning or go to sleep any night without hugs and "I love you" to every family member.

If it was a trinket, fine, but a bed you don’t need. My sister-in-law will take if, lol. She loves to collect useless crap, much to her husband’s dismay. (Maybe we’re talking about the same person.)

I do the same when we are together. And even the dog waits for his hug and kiss.

Yeah they are a ton of work, but honestly, nothing beats a big hug from your kid. It's the best thing in the world.

I wouldn't describe that as "fun" for me, but I do admit it's a completely different (dull) dynamic when they're away and I don't look forward to that. GMG that I'm so sensitive to noise and inanity that I can't properly appreciate these times.

My son went to University in September. When we flew back from Belfast, the first thing I noticed was his empty room, and my heart sank. The place just felt so empty.

It has gotten easier with time because you get used to it, and also because I appreciate this is a good thing. He’s left home to get an education and build a life in what is a very safe environment. It’s natural, he’s forging his own way now, but we are always there to support him when he needs it.

We never planned to have children. It just happened and it is the most wonderful thing to have ever happened to me in my life. It helps for sure that he was far easier to bring up than I ever was for my Mom. When I look back, I can’t believe how easy we had it. He has always done well at school, been far more thoughtful and mature than I ever was and he’s now fitting in well at University.

I’ve been very lucky.

I remember that post. Me and the wife were going through a similar thing with our oldest at the time. With kids things can change fairly rapidly, our oldest has now found her footing and a job that she loves that’s actually really quite cool. I’m very, very proud of her.

It grinds my gears that there’s hardly any talk of gears grinding in the past few pages of the gear grinding thread. It’s great that you love your progeny but take it elsewhere.

Fine! It GMG when people use "myself" incorrectly to try to sound sophisticated. "Yes, she came to Tom and myself to confess to the murder!"

"...self" is reflexive, requiring a prior use of the self as the subject and reference back to that subject. Please call myself if you have any questions on this topic.

Idiots.

It took me years to learn to ignore CC's gratuitous apostrophes! Give me another 10 years and I'll ignore "myself."

Do kids even move out at 18 these days? (aside from ones packing for college...they'll be back anyway) I never had kids, but with how expensive life is these days combined with fewer opportunities, that just sounds like a relic of the past to me.

When you adjust for inflation, whats the new number? 23-25? Or younger but just more "false starts"?

My wife and I losing our jobs simultaneously. I knew mine was going to end October 31. The company was going in a different direction and they were very upfront and gave me notice + a little bit of severance. I was ok because I knew that we would still be able to manage just on her income for a while if needed. But out of the blue she got let go from her job November 1 after one month because it wasn't a "fit".
I was going to use this time to change industries and focus on some other things as I had really been unhappy in my current industry. Now I might have to go back to that industry just to make sure we can pay bills.
BTW, if anyone is looking for a Project Coordinator with 10+ years of experience in O&G, engineering, procurement, IT, and quality control, my wife is looking for a new role.

I would love to hear a bit more honesty. Those people with kids who play video games all day, have no job, abuse drugs, have destroyed houses, curse their parents out, steal money, committed crimes, etc.

Now those would be entertaining gear grinders!

It grinds my gears that my Dad is gone. 4 months in, there’s a big hole in me. No more hugs. No more phone calls. It ####ing sucks.

My kids are the opposite. My wife and them keep me going.

Do kids not like pepperoni pizza anymore? What the hell is wrong with them? I thought it was a staple for kids. My kid is having a few friends over and going to play games later so I bought a cheese and a pepperoni pizza. Everyone wanted cheese and there was no interest in pepperoni. F... these kids.

TELUS as a company is dog #### and rotting completely on the inside out. But holy #### Bell customer service out east is on a different level of hostile and terrible. I have never spoken to a bigger prick in my life than I had to deal with a couple days ago, and every time I call in to try and get help with making my modem go to bridge mode it's like I'm speaking with the dumbest people on the planet. The last person I spoke to I asked about being able to use an older version of their modem that enables bridge mode and she said sorry I have to get the customer service for that and transferred me to them and I got a message that they were closed 45 minutes ago and it hung up on me. Bravo lady Bravo
