On the other hand, what I don't understand about Boston is why they moved on so quickly from Ullmark without knowing they were going to have this issue with Swayman? Seems like something was missed there.

Bad look for the Bruins to be airing the amount offered publicly. I wouldn't be shocked if this ends poorly for both parties.
Bruins are IMO a dark horse to have a poor season.

Feels like we're always proclaiming the Bruins dead and they go on to be just fine. I'd bet Korpisalo looks great in Boston's system and they're confident in that too.

The Dec 1 comment now telling the public what was offered. Not sure what Boston is doing.
I get it from both sides, but public negotiations don't usually end well.

I think you’ve got it backwards. Maybe I’m not as up to speed on Kasper as I should be but his value must be on a sharp downward trajectory if the Wings are attaching a 1st to him. I mean, even with Andersson are the wings a playoff team? That 1st could be a top 15 pick for a guy who plays on your second pairing and a fourth liner.
I don’t know but I would have to think Andersson and a fourth might get you a 1st and a 2nd, similar to the Hronek deal. Unless of course Kasper’s value to the Wings is now considered a 2nd round pick, or worse.
|
Kasper struggled a little making the transition to the AHL last year but looked good in the second half of the season. I saw a recent prospect ranking after the 2024 draft that has him ranked just outside the top 50 NHL prospects. Of course, those kind of lists/rankings vary a lot and are really arbitrary. He and Bourque were ranked close to each other as far as prospects in that list. Savoie was ranked higher than both of them.

Yeah. This is like walking into a car dealer and saying ‘we’re definitely buying something today, but we want a bargain’

I think this is a situation where the organization doesn't think the goalies made the team good, the team made the goalies good.

I believe I heard somewhere (maybe 32 thoughts?) that they were racing against Ullmark's no trade team list to kick in. They were worried Ottawa might end up being on it.

Boston just being Boston. The organization is bigger than any one player. The Bruins are the institution. The institution makes you good, not the other way around.
Bergeron and Marchand played their entire careers on discounted contracts. They're paying Pastrnak $11.25M and McAvoy over $9M but don't want to pay their #1 Star Goalie - more than $8M?
Seems rich.

Calgary used to operate with a Gio cap before as well. Always thought it was a weird way to do things, you lose players doing stuff like that.

It'll surely happen this year! I think people have been saying this for 10 years now since their last cup win.

Marty St. Louis was visibly emotional talking about Laine....suggests they did a lot of work with him away from the rink to get him excited to play again.
Quote:
“The number one job we had to do with Patty is make him excited to come to the rink, and he was,” said a visibly emotional St. Louis.
“Seeing Patty coming in like that… makes me feel like we’re building a home not just a house,” said St. Louis.
“So I think it hurt… it stings a little more because I feel he was excited to come to the rink,” said St. Louis, again visibly emotional while delivering his remarks.

And I recall reading that earlier negotiations between Swayman's camp and the Bruins (maybe when he was RFA?) did not go well at all and Swayman had even commented on how bad it was.

Yup.
The Flames took Kipper to arbitration as well, he was not happy. But he is such a cool dude, he let it slide after and signed an extension.

They went to arbitration no?
Those things are nasty by nature....they have to sit there and explain why the player shouldn't get XX dollars because of their flaws.
And vice versa.
IIRC thats what he was talking about.

When the Hronek deal went down, I felt like Detroit was practically giving him away- IMO, that deal shouldn’t be used as a comparable. Any team that wants Rasmus better pony up THREE solid assets, or we move on.

I would trade Andersson 50% retained for LA's 2025 1st, Liam Greentree, and Tanner Jeannot (cap purposes).
Basically Andersson for two mid first round picks.
I'd prefer quality over quantity.
If Jeannot can't be traded to Calgary due to his NTC, it would get trickier cap-wise.

I have a hunch that Nashville would also be heavily involved if we were to deal Andersson.
They have tons of picks, tons of prospects and with everything they have done in the past two seasons it's pretty clear they intend on getting better now.
