I heard there's too much carbon in the steel, thus making it impossible to weld properly.

I think you guys should lay off the bridge. Let them take their time and get it right. As long as they keep paying their suppliers and ordering more stuff, it will be my favourite bridge in Calgary.

IIRC the City isn't picking up a dime for all the delays, so as long as that is true, I've got no problem.
Would have loved to have it complete by now though.

Agreed. Every day since the bridge was supposed to be completed, I find myself skipping joyfully down the path. Passing onlookers, waving graciously and smiling brightly at their admiring faces. The breeze flowing softly through the gaps between the buttons of my paisley short-sleeved shirt. So wonderful. Until I arrive at the undeveloped bridge. My head drops, my shoulder sink deeper. I sulk home. Lost, weaving between the trees. Kicking any and all small dogs in my way. Every. God damn. Day.

Look-a-like bridge built for much cheaper in Toronto. They're stealing our cool bridge idea and doing it better!

That Vaughn bridge looks like it's about a third as long, only about half as wide, and frankly, is pretty ugly, particularly in terms of "refinement." If that bridge costs 8 million, and the peace bridge costs $25 million, we're getting a pretty darn good deal here in Calgary.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that's the finished bridge in the picture.

From what little I saw of our bridge vs theirs, ours is much nicer. This TO one looks like a much smaller cheap knock off.
I think when our bridge is done, people will really like it. However, that is the problem, who knows when this thing will ever be done...

No, it's not finished, it's not even in place. Looking at it more, I think that's only half of the structure in that picture. Obviously, lots of work to do. But, even at this stage, you can tell that the attention to detail and the quality of design is behind the Peace Bridge, and by a fairly large margin, hence the Lada to Mercedes comparison. (To be fair, this Toronto bridge looks significantly more than Lada quality, Perhaps I should have said Chevrolet)

Length and girth don't count for anything if you can't get it up.
At least they didn't rip off the name, too, unlike these jokers.

It appears as though the entire bridge has been stripped (or part stripped re-primed entirely) and all of the sections (that I could see) appear to be grey primer. There is some serious cleanup happening at the site as well. I wonder what is going on now?

Damnit, our bridge is going to be primer grey?
Did the contractors screw up and now think this bridge is going to be put in Edmonton?

Finally someone hits the home run on this and sees it for what it really is.
a 25 million over payment that Drue Farell most likely has an off shore account because of it. JMO and I can have that opinion as a taxpayer to question this witch and her reasons for multiple deals with contracts and the city.
As for the Canadian Forces, God bless them and they should have a structure in Calgary built in their name. That is intended to be in their honor and not some u turn that Farrel and her other bandits name after the fact.
If city council wants to convince Calgarians that this bridge is named in honor of the Canadian Forces and was from the beginning have the balls to paint the beams camouflaged.

With all of the rewelding, there were going to have to repaint a whole bunch of it anyway, might as well strip all the paint and repaint from scratch.
