My guess is Pinder had it more correct where he was saying it was more the threat of the offer sheet and the overall trade discussion.

If Buffalo thought the Flames were actually going to give an offer sheet that potentially would have them giving up an unprotected first then I don't think they are taking Byram to arbitration lol...think they'd let that happen.
Its been stated by many Calgary and Buffalo are not good trade partners.

Buffalo wants now pieces and Calgary wants to trade futures.

They missed on Miller who went for a 1st, 2nd and top prospect. Wonder what he was willing to give up likely something similar minus the prospect.

Yeah I never really see Boomer say anything like this so confidently.

He doesn't really flaunt inside knowledge, so him confidently saying this makes me believe.it.

But regardless, it didn't happen (thankfully)

Byram offersheet would have been terrible. Hopefully Flames management has the same thoughts

Boomer doesn't often speak up about his connections to the team but seemed pretty confident in his intel.

2026 first being in the mix for Bowen Byram is bananas.

Even in a whiff here, I don't understand the plan.

Rumors with fake outrage during the summer are the worst.

Judging a GM on rumors and things that might have happened but didn’t is crazy. But whatever floats your boat I guess.

There is a slight chance that Boomer isn’t as connected as some want to believe.

It was likely in the mix for Kandre Miller as well.

I am sure he told them he is not trading picks since he has not traded picks. If trading a 2nd for a 25 year old former first round pick and a 24 year old former first round pick is some sort of "time to spend picks" signal it is certainly a weak ass signal.

5 million bucks a year with today's cap for a guy who averaged 47 points per 82 games for the 4 previous seasons before having an off year last year is definitely not a cap dump. If he gets over 40 points next year (almost certainly will) he will be right in line with what 40+ point players get paid in today's NHL.

Yeah that trade was way more about weaponizing cap space than it was about taking on bad salary.

A good season from Frost or Farabee and you can easily recoup that 2nd

In a slow summer of moves, with multiple different deals and sources citing the Flames looking to part with significant packages, it's all we've got to go off of.

All of the different sources spell the same thing. The Flames are allegedly willing to part with their own futures even in a potentially franchise altering draft. It's not nothing.

Stop acting like you know everthing. Miller was traded for 1st 2nd and Morrow. Calgary was the reported front runner, I am sure they would have closed with 3rd rounders.

Stop runing everything thread with your BS.

You actually think that the 2026 Calgary First was in play for Miller when it has been confirmed in this thread that it was never in play to the best of one of our actually insiders knowledge for Byram?

We got 2 years. Need to start pushing some guys out and adding assets and hopefully picking high enough to get a couple young stars.

It would have been better if they ripped the bandaid off earlier.
speaking of knowing everything, any update on which bandaids should have been ripped off earlier? Conroy inherited a lineup with 11 tradable veteran assets, he moved 7 of them in the first 12 months, re-signed one and did not move 3 of them. Which bandaids did he fail to rip off earlier? Specific examples would be great.

Also. Of the 3. I think Rhett knows people in Buffalo’s management. He might have fed the info to Boomer from the Buffalo side of it.

It’s weird only Boomer has this one. I feel like it would have been leaked out by someone else first. I can’t see the Flames giving up their 2026 1st and keeping a pile of cap space. The only rumoured moves are here for long term defensemen and their forward core still sucks.
I’m skeptical on this one.

Because they can't see how people could possibly have a different opinion from them. I just hope going forward people are more open minded to new ideas. These are all just opinions and there are likely some valid points in most posts whether positive or negative.

Huh. Who is this "they" of which you speak (not to mention "the clique")?

It's clear that there are a few people here who know each other (not me!) but I don't think it's very many?

"Insiders" now more than ever are simply being used as a tool in an attempt to create leverage by agents or opposing teams, and at some point people will start realizing that.

Judging a GM on what supposedly didn't happen vs what has actually happened is simply nonsense.

He had 25 points last year, and with Calgary, had 6 points in 31 games, less than a 16 point pace.

40+ point is far from a certainty.

To Philly, he was certainly a cap dump.
