Frost for Kuzmenko + 2nd is a huge win
Farabee for Pelletier + 7th is a win

Jarome Iginla dropped the gloves with Craig Conroy at one time too.

To me Naz looked a little broken up about losing Jakob in the post game interview.

I do think the team will be sad about losing Pelts, he's a guy that everyone had to love

Guys are always broken up about trades - they spend every day together.
The next day, they welcome the new guys into the group. And everyone moves on.

Wish Crazy Bacon Legs worked year round. How are we really to know if this was a good trade?

Pospisil would make a hell of a Flyer. I could see that.

Hard to dislike this deal.
Kuzmenko is again a salary dump, this time to help Calgary meet its internal cap. He's gone from the NHL next year anyway.
Calgary takes on some risk with the Farabee contract, but they have cap to burn in the foreseeable future, do no big deal. Philly obviously wants cap flexibility for next year.
Pelletier has been trending nicely, but you have to give to get. Same for the 2nd round pick.
Calgary is better today, and didn't mortgage much future.

This trade is proof that Conroy will do whatever it takes to improve the team. There may have been some initial worry that he was “too nice” to make the tough decisions. He just traded a very popular guy in the room and a blossoming fan favourite, out of the blue.
Great trade.

Either flyers didn't value Frost very much, or they really wanted Kuzmenko to pair with Michkov. Or both. Either way, it fortunes the Flames.

Think this also points to the care the internal leadership team takes in helping the young guys out. Huska and Conroy reference the leadership a bunch, and I think this shows how important they've been to our success and in the room.

Yes, we'll have to sign Wolf, Zary, and Coronato soon, but even with their pay bumps, I can't see Flames having any sort of cap issues for Farabee's remaining contract. It's not like Flames are going to go big game hunting in the next few years on UFAs (nor should they).
|
Mainly just opportunity cost. They've essentially used up 5M+whatever they sign Frost for on this, when it could be used elsewhere to acquire a first, prospects, etc. for taking on bad expiring deals. Cap space is a valuable asset, that's a big part of what they gave up here given the term Farabee is on. I don't think he's very good, despite the optimism about this from some corners. I am higher on Frost from the times I've watched Philly.
I don't think it's a bad trade, I just think it's a high risk high reward trade, which is a fine strategy IMO.

He will get over it. It was just last week that naz said in an interview he hoped conny would add talent to the team this year. Conny did that. Naz is no dumny , he knows you got to give to get. Someone was leaving if they wanted to improve the team.

Here's hoping they just needed a fresh start.

I was wondering the same thing. I was reading on a couple of Philly fan boards last night and a lot of the posters felt that neither of them were in the team’s future.
Guess we’ll find out Saturday.

I think Conroy has done a great job of moving people out. I think in each trade he has made we have picked up useful pieces and sent away players that were either underperforming or not a good fit anymore.

Torts hated Frost and Farabee, so Briere traded them for spare parts. I don't think there's anything else to it, honestly.
Probably in for a rude awakening though. Torts is going to murder Kuzy.

What makes this even better is that Conroy has positioned this club wonderfully and is almost assuredly going to act as a 3rd party facilitator at or near the deadline in order to recoup a large portion of the draft capital we just gave up in the trade.
Craig is really inspiring confidence, and appears to be completely locked in on sticking to his plan. The patience he showed with this trade highlights that.
We have the right guy at the helm and it feels great.

With the cap going up, the money can be discounted a bit. It's two unproven NHLers for 2 decent first rounders who've played in the league consistently for a few years, still with upside.
The opportunity cost in not getting Frost and Farabee to get instead 2 1st round picks (would never get that) who may or may not turn out like Frost and Farabee have, down the road in 6 or 7 years, doesn't seem all that attractive as a risk, nevermind the timeline between now and then.
As Flames fans we'd be thrilled if we had our first rounders from 2017 and 2018 (we had none) still on the team and contributing the past years as Frost and Farabee did.
