If you go to FC and read the reviews from all of their scouts, the opinions on his skating fluctuate wildly- one scout rates him a 8/10 for speed. Perreira (who wrote the above article) rates it a 4/10. The scout I trust the most, Aaron Vickers, rates his skating a 6/10. That's all I'm saying- his skating isn't bad.
PS: I wasn't going after you at all, I respect your opinion very much.

Some of those reports that they used stats to track him are pretty telling. Wasting time in the offensive zone and not making quality passes.
Skating might be the least of the concerns with this player.

I think he is going to be really difficult to scout, even after getting clarity on his long-term health.
He has missed an entire season, and is probably playing catch-up with his conditioning, timing and chemistry for the remainder of this season and next. Losing so much time definitely hurts development.
He has quickly turned from a 'potential franchise player' to a 'high risk, high reward' pick. Flames have two picks, so they can afford to 'gamble' (poor word here - Flames should never gamble, but stick to their methodology and internal rankings that come from it) on him if he falls down enough (and assuming they get clearance for their medical staff to examine him).

Upside Hockey update fwiw - we've been quiet since end of January. (I was actually away for a month completing a yoga course of all things - certified, yo lol). Anyway, stuff happening behind the scenes still. We're going to gradually get Sandman's super profiles up along with posting on our Substack for more promotion and exposure.
Currently working on: We have our March/Spring Rankings done - will be live in the next day or so.

Steven Ellis of Daily Faceoff with his Mock Draft
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/20...adline-edition
The Habs select Ryabkin with the pick they get from the Flames
The Flames select Brady Martin (C) with the pick they get from the Devils
The Flames select Nathan Behm (RW) with the pick they get from the Panthers
I would be happy with Martin, but not happy if they left Nesbitt or Reschny on the board

Would be ecstatic with any two of Martin, Bear, Kindel, Cootes, or Reschny

I really hope that NJ falls a few spots before the season ends.

As things stand right now, the Flames are only 4 points behind New Jersey with 2 games in hand.
It's not out the realm of possibility that the New Jersey pick is higher than the Flames own pick (which will be obviously going to Montreal at this point).

Ottawa may also give up their pick this year in the Dadonov fiasco, so that could push us up as well

Even if its 12-16, I can't imagine they'd take a chance that their Mckenna lottery chances are given up instead

Who do you think could be the Cole Eiserman and Beckett Sennecke on the 2025 draft?

I worry that McQueen could potentially slip out of the top-10 and beyond, mostly due to injury, and there’s also Ryabkin- it will be interesting to see where he’s picked. No points for him in both weekend games last week. He’s still a ppg, I guess.
This year’s Sennecke could very well be RW Justin Carbonneau. He’s sitting 2nd in Q scoring with 87 points in 58 games- he’s second in goals with 46, as well. He’s getting first-round love, but like Sennecke, he’s hovering around in the mid-teens to the twenties in some lists. JC is a 6’2” power-forward with a bit of snarl, and his two-way game has been improving this season. He even skates well. I could easily see him going top-10.

Would put lynden lakovic in that as well. Few drafts have him top ten but mostly seem to be settling in the teens.

There are many scouts who LOVE the kid, and some of that is due to we can't necessarily see. I have read that his fancy stats paint him as a very positive play-driver. Plus, he's putting up excellent numbers (52 points in 42 games) on a very weak team.
