I always hate "comparable deal" the team trading decides what players or picks they prefer, not some blogger

Hmm... so their offer would have had to been better than a 2025 1st round pick of the Devils, who will likely finish lower than the Leafs, and a 23-year old defenceman that most project to be a bottom pairing defenceman long term. Probably not hard to beat what the Devils gave up, actually. Toronto's 2025 1st round pick (if they even have it?) + any of Cowan, Minten or Grebyonkin likely gets it done. But again. if there was a clear better deal from Toronto, I for some reason really doubt that Conroy (or Edwards if you're the conspiracy type) would say no to it just because of bad blood between Tre and the Flames org.

Just look at all the other amazing trades Brad has made in Toronto, all GMs are blacklisting him!

TO's 1st rounder is likely to stay 22-32 for a couple years, so no thanks.
NJ's is very likely in the teens.

Until they tell us what the ‘reported’ offer was, this is all face-saving PR

Friedman saying Toronto offer would have had to blow them out of the water for it to happen “given the politics involved”.
I thought I followed Treliving’s exit fairly closely. This is the second time I’ve heard about bad blood between BT and the flames. What’s this about?

That would have been Liljgren I think.

I would almost say this is a 100% lock of who the Leafs were offering likely with their 26 1st as their 25 has already been dealt. Liljegren’s name has been out there in trade rumors

I suspected as much - towards the trade deadline, the trade never got far enough along to even approach Markstrom about waiving. This is according to Conroy in the barnburner interview.
Sounds like Fitz finally upped the offer to what Conroy was looking for, and that's the reason the deal went through.

Feels like a lot of wishful thinking that New Jerseys pick will be a mid first rounder, but if New Jersey is healthy and Markstrom provides even average goaltending, they’ll be one of the top three teams in the east this year. They’ve got one of the best forward groups, a great defence and a bunch of young guys that’ll take another step this year. They are probably also a pretty attractive destination for Tanev now with Markstrom there (and that could be partly why they were willing to give up Bahl).
This isn’t a team that’s likely to take a step back (like Vegas might in the next two years).
Not a knock on the deal, but flames must really think highly of Bahl as he seems to be the main piece here. I’m pretty excited to see what he can do.

His entire last year and the outcome? lol. He also might have handed Montreal a top 5 pick so he could sign an old UFA

Maybe that he failed to resign Gaudreau and Tkachuk, did sign Huberdeau, and kinda wrecked the team.

100% guarantee you Friedman's source for that Leafs/Markstrom report is Treliving himself.

Ok. That's fans view. But didn't Murr offer Treliving an extension and he turned it down?

That was what someone definitely told the media happened. Of course that story makes one person seem in demand so one can speculate on who told the media that.

I'm not exactly sure what we will see from Jersey but they definitely have the pieces to be a top team in the league. Expecting them to be bottom half of the league again next year seems highly unlikely but would be amazing for the Flames.
As things stand now it seems like the Flames likely get a 20 something pick and a bottom pairing guy. Those could be two depth pieces though so it's not a terrible trade. Getting something for Markstrom is better than nothing and dropping in the standing is where the true value is. Hopefully the Flames 2025 1st lands them their first franchise player to start building around.
