Five teams and 8 points back.

Edmonton is no good.

I think it's time for an "all-in" trade for them to save the season. Multiple firsts and... I'd say prospects, but they really don't have any.

Lol. I love that every time they win a couple of games and the media anoints them Cup favourties again, they still find themselves 7 or 8 points out. They have games in hand on pretty much everyone in the West, but they'd probably need another 8 game winning streak to even get a sniff of playoffs. And they have to leapfrog at least 5 teams to do it.

At this point I just don't see them making it. Not if the teams above them keep winning.

And that's just it:

Only ONE of those five teams needs to keep winning, and the Oilers will miss. With five of them in the mix the chances are almost certain that at least one will not trail off. Two or maybe three teams will sag, but that won't be enough for the Oilers to get in.

Games in hand generally doesn't play out as well as teams assume it will.

You basically have to win them all for it to mean anything. .500 or just above it just keeps the gap the same typically.

History is slanted against the Oilers at this point. And the track record is what it is for good reason. It's very hard to overcome that distance this far into the campaign.

When the Oilers miss every dufus talking about cups when they were in basement need to be humiliated and made an example of.

The teams they are chasing are 3 games above .500. If they win 3/4 games they have in hand, that would put then 2 games above .500 and in the battle, more or less.

The big problem is that 3 teams are 3 games above .500.

And the nature of the NHL schedule and points system means the teams they are chasing are frequently playing against each other -- often in games where one team gets one point and the other gets two.

6 days off and they get the Sharks on the second half of a back to back. The league will do anything to help the Oilers

Yeah it's a lot of competition for 1-2 spots.

So true. It's disgraceful. Always got to give that #### show organization a leg up.

They also got a tired 32nd place Sharks team on a back to back. Such a huge win! They should just hand the Cup to the Oilers right now.
