You people are also getting fatter, less active, using nicotine more (vaping and pouch use outweighs decreases in cigarette use), etc...

Yes, the rates for young people abstaining from alcohol have increased from 24-30%, but that's likely not a sign a health. I think what we're seeing is a backlash by a minority to epidemics going on around them. The same is true of food. If you went by social media alone, you'd assume more people were eating healthy or alternative diets. However, on average, people are eating worse, including more fast food.
Maybe, the point still stands there is sod all anyone can do about it, society has changed it isnt changing back so we have to learn to cope with the changes

There are definitely people I socialize with less because for them, alcohol is why they socialize. They have to drink. It gives them the excuse they need to drink, often to excess. Also I hate being around drunk people.

Why can’t you do that without the beer? It is a myth people need alcohol to have fun.

As a young person I was very shy, and binged drinked on the weekend. I thought it would make it easier for me to socialize. It did not - it just lead to bad decisions and hangovers. I was not having “fun”. It’s a crutch, and not a very good one.

I still enjoy a drink a couple of times a week to accompany a meal or a movie. I can’t stand being drunk or being around drunk people. They are not fun or charming at all.

With addiction being a main driver to a lot of issues, I’m not sure this is the right thread to debate the positives of drinking…

Fair enough. I want to clarify that I wasn't stating that youth drinking is healthy. Just that youth are objectively getting less healthy, overall, even though drinking rates among them are decreasing, as the rate of other more harmful vices are increasing.

Its also not the place to re-iterate something that is absolutely true in the efforts to appear right. No one thinks drinking is a net positive. But bringing up the absolute obvious to be a know it will 100% prevent someone from saying things in this thread that could be construed as embarrassing.

Drinking is bad, no fataing schit, thanks for the revelatory knowledge buds. Breaking news!

I also think people should mostly avoid cancer. Thanks for that advice.

If any thread should be devoid of message board nerd, know it all guys to shut the fata up, this is the place.

Turn the frowns upside down guys, worked for me!

Lots of people here mistaking their own anecdotal experiences with statistical trends and social research.

Nobody is saying "binge drink" here. Jesus Christ.

Y'all should get together over a beer and talk this out.

I mean, I like having beers with friends every now and then, but I understand that doesn't work for everyone.

But there *is* evidence that shows moderate drinkers are healthier, richer, and happier than non-drinkers and it is theorized that it is the social element in which a lot of moderate drinking takes place.

I don't think anyone has made the point that there is "sod all" we can do to change society...

If you are worried about your kids and social media, don't let them have it. Find other things for them to do. Parents all around the world are dealing with this issue and having varying degrees of success. It's not like oh well learn to cope was ever an effective strategy to deal with any kind of serious problem ever.

Two beers is the Platonic number of beers anyway.

One of the challenges is that a lot of the social interaction happens via social media and on devices
So if you cut them off you risk them becoming ostracized
