Its hard to say really, Messi brings different qualities to a game, he's not the pure goal-scorer like Ronaldo, he likes to operate the heart of a team, but if you surround him with poor players he's not going to elevate them much, whereas with Ronaldo all you expect is goals and regardless of the team he delivers goals.
Then again, neither player is really playing with a bunch of scrubs. You can maybe bemoan the 'lack of quality' of Portugal or Argentina, but that is relative, both teams are still chock full of World Class players.

There will only be non premium group stage games in 2026 because of the massive expansion of teams.

I’m not sure we will actually see too much of an overall talent dilution adding the extra teams

So his entire career for Argentina.
Messi is unreal but his Argentina teams are the least talented teams around him. He’s never played with club teams without other elite elite players around him.
