And of course they have to put their money where their mouth is, by refusing admission to anyone who works in the evil nasty oil & gas industry.

With the ever rising costs of building materials and labor, for anyone to think this project won't have value engineering, they're kidding themselves. Especially with the Flames at the table. Not because they're the Flames, because the construction experience they "have" is from CNRL.
If you're not familiar with CNRL's construction practices and policies, hold on to your butts. Not only will they value engineer, they will make someone else pay for it (that's calagrians). I really hope I'm wrong but I don't expect this to be a smooth project for anyone.
Just look up CNRL and construction to see the horror stories. These guys don't play nice.

Aren’t you taking up box space with this approach which is more valuable than seating?

Expect any of the big sponsors Scotiabank, Telus, Westjet. Naming rights are a big thing and millions of dollars are involved they arent gonna pass that.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I'm assuming Scotiabank will have first kick at the can for naming rights, and if they choose to do that its slim pickings for what they can call it as I feel like every conceivable arena descriptor is in use by them in this country.
Arena, Place, Coliseum, Centre, etc.
Scotiabank Gardens?
