Don't forget, the City Budget comes out tomorrow. Get ready to a kick in the teeth regardless of which side you were on.

call me naive, but I don’t think this is over yet. I’m think we need to see what the IOC does here now.

I hope the wages for the vote workers will be the last dollar to be spent related to the bid. No more "Let's look at another alternative" type crap please!!

Now back to serious business. A private-public partnership to get a new arena and stadium.

Not sure $350M+ equals pennies. It would have been nice to have the Olympics but i can't say I'm overly disappointed that we won't be spending millions on Nakiska, McMahon, bobsleigh tracks, Saddledome, and the Big 4.
I agree that the Bidco did a terrible job - their inability to come forward with a cohesive plan ahead of time did them in.

Ironically, if a lot of the No votes came from confused people who didn't like the idea of events being held in Edmonton, the next time we bid, it will almost-certainly include holding events in Edmonton because it won't make sense to keep the Saddledome around for that long after the new arena is open without the Olympics on the horizon.

Can we vote on that too?
God I would have loved to vote on Ken King's initial presentation.

Can't help feeling this was all a tremendous waste of resources, bidco, advertising, plesbicite...

It's over. Unless the IOC is gonna put more money on the table AND pick up the provinces tab (that was the main point of the plebiscite), there's no way council can continue with the bid. The city has no money to do the games now.

I mentioned earlier bit a win win for all sides would be to see the IOC step up with enough money for it to make sense to both yes and no people. Then Bidco puts together a much better concept and everyone is happy.

People can't possibly think there is any chance of a new stadium being funded.

Really? This city just rejected a 7 year construction boom + and you think they will want to pay for a Flames arena?
I feel like the Flames owners are upset tonight. This is a bad result for them.

I could see this maybe if the other bids collapse, which they very well might. Not sure how much more they'd have to contribute to make it more appealing, but no more plebiscites please. If we have to do one again to get provincial funding, forget it.

The IOC isn't going to do anything right now - they still technically have two bids for this thing. If they both die out, then maybe.

This can't be over stated. My No was based on the complete lack of organization on Bidco and the City's part. I wanted to vote Yes, but could not justify this risk based on their terrible information and bid.
For shame.

Thank goodness. There are so many better ways to express civic pride than spending tens of billions of ballooning costs on a ten-day party
