If the Flames do get Kylington there will be a lot of "It's a good day to die!" and " Qapla'" Photoshops.

I feel a little greedy for saying this, but I'm kind of bummed we didn't manage to get a 1st round pick.

Two things still really bug me about tonight:
1. Those really, really bright new Oilers jerseys. I might sue the Oil for losing some of my eyesight.
2. That incredibly awkward and brutally creepy Katz/McDavid Bachelor/final rose thingy. Never seen that before at the NHL draft, and I think I can speak for all hockey fans when I say I hope we never see that again. I still shiver thinking about it, Katz looked like a lovestruck stalker there. Who allowed that to air?

Tomorrow is going to be chalk full of roster trades. I feel it. And the Flames won't be done.
Really hoping for one of Korostelev of Stephens. Folks were pumping up Beaulliviers tires and he went high. Stephens was the other guy on that line that made everything happen at the U-18's will be a massive steal if they take him there I think.

They will never have the money to pay all these guys. They will be like the A's of hockey - always close, but always rebuilding because they can't afford to keep the good young guys.

All that needed was Katz holding out a box of chocolates and asking if McDavid wants to stay at his house for next season.

When he wasn't looking at cue cards Katz was gazing into McDavid's eyes.

I really think the Isles were the next winners. They picked up Barzal and Beauvillier, that's a great haul.

Was disgusting how Katz used it as a platform to sell his new building. The draft should be about the players

Loved the TSN panel.......Lebrun said the Flames were one of the big winners, then they talk for a bit about how low of a price the Flames paid for Hamilton. For those of us around during the Gilmour days, feels good to be on the right side of the trade.

The players signed pucks and were asked to describe the feeling on the puck.
See if you can pick out McDavid's and Eichel's pucks based solely on their feelings.

It honestly felt like a paid infomercial, I know that seems far fetched but it was so bad, I've never seen anything like it at the draft. The thing was so set up, Katz was looking off screen at moments looking for his lines for Christ sake.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Oilers paid for that little spot.

I still can't believe Boston stayed in that spot and picked those 3 guys, at least trade down.

I thought Buffalo did well also. They got their starting G Robin Lehner, #1 & 3 centres Jack Eichel, O'Reilly to go with #2 C Sam Reinhart, Evander Kane and the D they got from Winnipeg last season. They better not be in Austin Matthews sweepstakes next season.

Yeah, exactly. They make a couple of bad trades in which they get sub-par returns, and then they follow it up with picking guys too high who mostly would have remained on the board. They essentially screwed themselves from both ends. They could easily have traded down and would more than likely got 2/3 they selected - if not all 3 - and would probably have another 2 or 3 second round picks to show for it.

There is no board. Every team has a COMPLETELY different list. The top two picks might've been the same across the board but other than that, I doubt there was any consensus on anything. Fans continually underestimate the extent to which the teams disagree with each other on the draft. I've watched the draft closely for about two decades now. I can tell you that there is no consensus, there is no board. Teams rarely agree on anything outside the top pick or two. It's not being obtuse, it's reality.

Everyone places different emphasis on different aspects of players. The Wings for example place a higher emphasis on high end skills regardless if the player is crap otherwise in hopes that they can figure out the other parts of their game. Everyone has different ideas about what will translate, just like your and my disagreements over Nick Ritchie last year. Doesn't mean that any opinion is invalid, we're just seeing different things.

Agreed. I'm just trying to debunk this idea that there is any sort of consensus around the draft because there isn't.
Plenty of reasons for teams to make diff lists. Here's a couple examples.
1) Differing organizational philosophies. Team A may emphasize competitiveness, Team B skating, Team C pure offensive skill, etc. It's obviously more complicated than that even. Team A may put the highest emphasis on competitiveness while having skill, skating and size as priorities as well. Team B might emphasize skating while having hockey sense and skill as the most important secondary qualities.
2) See different prospects on different nights. Team A might see John Smith every time he scores 2 goals while every time Team B is scouting John Smith he has an off night.
3) Placing different values on different types of players. Team A may feel power forwards are rare and valuable and thus that type of player rises on their list. Team B may emphasize top pairing defensemen and end up having more defensemen at the top of their list than other teams. Team C might feel that centre is a more position than the wing and thus their list has centres ranked highly in comparison to wingers.
Put 10 guys in a big, filled room and you won't get a consensus on who the hottest girl is. People opinions vary and differ.
Put 10 scouts in a room and you won't get consensus on who the hottest prospects are outside the top 1-2.
