I don't know if he's trying his best to get traded - his chances of seeing the NHL are likely better on this team than any other. More likely he's playing for starts cuz the other guy hasn't even lost yet this year. Tough act to follow.

He's not an NHL goalie, he's a tweener. He's had more AHL starts than NHL starts in his career, and I don't think it's fair to say this competition is below him. The AHL is a tough league.

Dean Arsene has signed a SPC with Abbotsford. (was on a PTO)

James Martin and Kane Lafranchise has been called up from Alaska.

Looks like he's been called up to the NHL according to the transaction page

James Martin. Though I'm sure it's a typo. Can't see them bringing up a player from the ECHL to the NHL

Nobody. Well, Chris Breen. But we knew that.

11/26/2013 Dean Arsene (D) Abbotsford DEL Released from PTO
11/26/2013 Dean Arsene (D) Abbotsford ADD Signed to SPC
11/26/2013 James Martin (D) Abbotsford ADD Reassigned by Calgary (NHL) from Alaska (ECHL)
11/26/2013 James Martin (D) Abbotsford Added
11/26/2013 Kane Lafranchise (D) Abbotsford ADD Recalled from loan to Alaska (ECHL)
11/26/2013 Kane Lafranchise (D) Abbotsford Added

James Martin is Flames property, so they move him around, but they just moved him from ECHL to AHL, to not NHL.

James Martin is a great call up. We were down to 4 healthy defensemen with Breen called up I think.

Kane Lafranchise (D)

25 years old, AJHL kid, then went to college in Alaska, then had a couple good seasons with the aces. Hasn't looked good in limited appearences in the AHL with the Barons and Aeros. He'll have to play too.

Billins
Ramage
McKenzie
Arsene
Martin
Lafranchise

-Wotherspoon (injured)
-Sieloff (recovering)
-Breen (recalled)
-Lamb (injured)
-Cundari (injured)

It would sure be nice to have Smith some time soon. Still only have 6 healthy D even with two call ups. Defence is beyond thin.

He was in Calgary being tested for post concussion symptoms and passed all the baseline tests. It's about a 2 week minimum if you lose consciousness from a hit and smash your head on the ice.

He will probably rejoin the team for practices after the Utica matches this weekend. Just my semi-educated guess.

Max Reinhart was recalled today, according to the AHL transactions page. It will be interesting to see how Abby does this weekend, with Reinhart, Jones and Breen with the big club and a pretty depleted blue line.

Spoke with Chris Breen and Flames assistant (to the) general manager Craig Conroy about just what the heck is going on in Abby right now.

So yeah, the Heat are pretty banged up right now as well. Especially on defence.

Lamb, Cundari and Wotherspoon are all injured. Plus, Granlund wasn't out there at practice this morning. He's got the flu.

Add in the loss of Breen, Jones, Reinhart and Byron and things aren't looking good.

All that said, Ward pulled the team aside and gave them a nice inspirational speech to keep them from feeling sorry for themselves. The guys seemed pretty amped when they left the ice.

Oh Canucks fans...

From Dan Kinvig's article:

Quote:
Of course, with the Canucks switching affiliate teams for the third time in five years, there's a certain amount of education that has to happen among the local fan base.

"We've actually had people purchase Chicago (Wolves) tickets, and then come back to us and said, 'Hold it, I thought this was the Canuck affiliate,'" Walter related. "That is happening, but maybe not as much as we thought it might happen."
From what I heard today, they're barely breaking the 4000 mark right now. Walk-ups might add another 500. In years past, when local fans actually knew which team was the Canucks' AHL affiliate, they'd sell out.

Good lord.

Might also have to do with the Canucks having a garbage prospect base playing there. Who's the top prospect there? Jensen has 2 points in 11 games, Mallet has 1 point in 12 games. Superstar in the making last year Corrado I guess is the top guy but he's not tearing it up either. Not really much for a Canucks fan to cheer for..

At least Utica is the worst team in the AHL, so hopefully all these injuries and call-ups won't hurt them too much this weekend. Then, they have a full week off before they play again.

Does anyone from Vancouver want to go to the game with me tomorrow night? I'm working on the installation of the big christmas tree at Highstreet mall so I'll be in Abbotsford anyway.

I have been dying to see them play live, but I won't have a ride back home after the game to the city. I will pay gas money! Heck, I'll even pay for your ticket if you'll join me for some hockey. Any takers?

Even with Eddy and Sivak up from Alaska, that's a suddenly thin group.

I was wondering how Ferland was playing, I'm still intrigued with him as a prospect as long as he is maintaining the mean streak he had in the dub.
