I just tuned into this match. I honestly can't recall a game as snowy as this - or at least one that has been allowed to continue this long.
As much as I enjoy the rare sporting oddity, I do have to wonder why such an important match was scheduled for Colorado in March. I suppose the thinking was to make life difficult for the Costa Ricans, but spring snowstorms aren't uncommon in Colorado.

An 8pm MST start as well. US wanted to play geographic and cold weather advantage but obviously very risky. Working out thus far.
And we both know Whitehorse is capable of hosting a WC qualifier..
Edmonton at -14C is comparable....though Canadians wouldn't embarrass themselves by pulling this stunt.
Yes we both know, that is why it is a fun inside joke I pull out every few months
However! I'm not sure what the standards even are for hosting a World Cup qualifier. There was a World Cup qualifier in Tahiti (Oceania champions!) and the official paid (?) attendance was 600.
I'm sure there are World Cup qualifiers in some countries around the world where there are no fans.

I remember watching this with a expression. I think they might be the most northerly club on the planet, 350 clicks north of the Arctic circle. By far the craziest game I've ever watched. Strange thing is too that Chelsea were even a bit likeable back then.
Chelsea were beaten 3-2 in the first leg of their European Cup Winners' Cup tie against Tromso - a team of part-timers from Norway. The match, played inside the Arctic Circle, was at times reduced to a farce as the two sides struggled to cope with heavy snow. Play had to be suspended twice so ground staff could redraw the lines by dragging large brooms through the white stuff.

Something about watching the US Supporters chanting and singing in the snow depresses me, that should be OUR thing! A game like Friday's could have turned into Voyageurs legend...
I can't believe it has taken either Canada or the US this long to use cold temperatures and wintry weather to their advantage when playing Central American and Caribbean teams. What a great idea and I for one am glad that Costa Rica lost and are annoyed by it. I just wish that the CSA had figured this out themselves.

There's a joke now that when Costa Rica play the US in 2017, they should play it in Barrow Alaska.

Whiners! Seriously I would play Costa Rica in Whitehorse. Not because it would help the Canadian team in anyway but #### Costa Rica!
Hahaha, are we really surprised they played and then protested when they lost? In their situation, it was the obvious choice. Even if the conditions warrant a cancelation and you don't fancy your chances in those conditions, you see if you can pull out a win to avoid having an additional match but if you lose you protest knowing that the game was played on shaky foundations. It's not whining, it's playing the system.
