It totally depends on the boss. Bad bosses avoid conflict and lets the toxicity continue. Even worse bosses avoid conflict and pick sides.

I don't know if I told the story here, but I knew and worked with a person who addressed everyone when they entered the room/group/whatever as "hey f###ers". Colleagues, friends, family, our bosses, it didn't matter. We could be in our office, on site, at a pub, in a restaurant, it didn't matter. He did it with such a steady, no F's given cadence, it's like his confidence won over anyone who'd be offended.

I wish I had the cajones.

You have to play the room of course. Some workplaces are very toxic, it's not a laughing matter. You seem to be fortunate to work at a drama-free non-toxic place.

I think if you address people by name, you can't go wrong no matter how sensitive people are.

We are to address everyone as members now, I helped that member with the issues, no more users, employee, etc.

Very silly but taken very serious so I play the game. These days its seems like HR isn't here for us but here to find examples to deal with. Looking for excuses to get rid of people rather than reasons like a sacrifice to the woke gods.

Makes me sad when we had a company breakfast last week and up the elevator one of the older guys says hey give me a sausage, I couldn't resist "I've got a sausage you can have" There is only a few people from one dept I would even consider saying that to or even in earshot.

HR is the "no fun club" of any workplace but I wouldn't want their job these days. I couldn't imagine the petty (and not so petty) complaints they receive and have to deal with. They're almost always the villains, regardless of how well they do their job.
