I struggle to identify any government, Con or Lib, that hasn't ignored the military.
Agreed. I didn't mean government in the singular sense (ie the current government). It was meant to be plural in that all our governments in recent memory have been negligent. (ie the Federal Government)

OTTAWA — The parliamentary budget officer is poking holes in the Defence Department's cost estimates for buying and operating second-hand fighter jets from Australia, saying its own figures put the cost 22 per cent higher than reported.

Another commander, Lt.-Col. David Buchanan, a regular force member who was commanding officer of 30th Field Artillery Regiment in Ottawa, a reserve unit, was removed earlier this month. Buchanan’s name became public after military police laid two charges related to incidents of a sexual nature that allegedly occurred in Cyprus in 2012. He is charged with one count of conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline and one count of drunkenness.’
Paul said the lieutenant-colonel was temporarily removed from command but he can’t get into further details because as a general officer he might be required to hear any appeals in the outcome of the case.
The allegations against Buchanan have not been proven in court.
Some of the things I saw.....wow.

Its a weird debate because I've been watching this story. But my gut tells me that we're seeing a shortage in personal in the Navy, Airforce and Army. Usually the people that leave and go onto civilian life are either officers or from the Senior NCO core.
We could be looking at a depletion of the professional NCO and officer roster which leads to a strong lack of leadership.

I love the ####ing Army, because the Army loves ####ing me.
There is a part of me that feels a sense of warmth that nothing has changed in 30ish years.
I ran into a old unit buddy that I hadn't seen in nearly 30 years. You realize that you're getting old when you're having a beer with someone that you remembered as young who is now completely gray haired and after one beer is sleepy

It's just Canadian tradition at this point. And it's disgusting
We have to follow the Australian example - lay out a 25 year plan and put the money aside beyond electoral concerns.
To do that, obviously, we need to fix procurement for the military. That probably means making it a single department's responsibility, laying out from the beginning what kind of work is done here at home, and what is done abroad, and buying a lot more designs off the shelf.
At least they did this with the Type 26s, even though there were probably better options available, I was happy to see them pick a frigate that one of our closest allies would be using.
