Still have a chance?
Isn't 37 a little young to be going senile Mark?

Didn't see your post, so no. Responded to Tkachkwagon's post. I wouldn't trade for him. I think Bennett is worthless and I think Patrick is equally as worthless.
Can you tell me what exactly about Patrick's game that is so tantalizing? Is it his great ability to move the puck? Is it his speed? Is it his shot? Is it his ability to use his line mates? Is it is his defensive awareness? Is it his head for the game? Is it his toughness? What is it that makes him a player worthy of trading for? Beyond his #2 draft status is there anything you know about this guy that says, "yes, the Calgary Flames need to make a trade for him?"

Just roll with Lindholm - Backlund - Patrick - 4th C (Gawdin?) during the ‘22 season while we try and figure ourselves out. Sutter could probably do something good with Patrick. Throw money at Couturier or Zibanejad in the ‘22 offseason.

Or trade for Eichel in the off-season, then you have Eichel - Lindholm - Backlund - Patrick. That’s a pretty solid centre group and then build your wings around them.

I think there is zero chance we can trade for Eichel. What assets do we have? Unless we offer Tkachuk + + +. Even then, not sure it's enough.

So does that mean they're going to play out of their minds vs Montreal?
Is that also why they've only really showed up for sixty against the Habs and played like a house of cards since?

It’s funny how many people seem to want players, or the coach or the GM to speak publicly against the team’s interest. It Gio publicly says he wants to be traded, it drives his value down.
I remember people complaining when Bettman, in the course of dealing with Arizona being possibly sold, wouldn’t admit it was a money loser - like that would help get a good buyer.

Monahan, Hanifin, Pelletier/Zary and a 1st might be close no?

Something like this could work for both teams , draft picks might have to be added to balance things out.
Gaudreau & Bennett to Philly
Konecny & Patrick to Flames
Bennett is a Philly kind of player

I forgot about the migraine thing. I think that if it was something he could overcome, it would have happened by now. I’d save Bennett to see if he could be used as bait for something else.

Philly saw fit to trade Schenn when they secured Patrick's services-I'm sure they wanted some cap room too, but that's how much they thought of him. They saw him as an immediate top-6 C, with Couturier.
I wish there was still a player there-I would love a scenario where we got him cheap, then he somehow became the #1C we have needed for decades, but it won't happen.

If Patrick had migraines before, Calgary would finish him off

Monny will not be the centrepiece of a Eichel trade. He needs to prove that he can still play a meaningful role in this league.

The fact that he missed a year actually is a point in his favour, as he may have an excuse for being so rusty.
Look, I think his chances of being great is pretty slim. But if he comes cheaply, what do the Flames have to lose? It’s not like the Flames are going anywhere fast. They can certainly give him an opportunity.
He’s still very young and has missed a lot of time. He has at least proven himself healthy this year. As long as the acquisition price is low.

Yikes. Not sure today's Monahan would be something they'd even want. And talk about leaving the cupboards bare.

Treliving on the Fan 960:
- I'd caution everyone, it's just a date on the calendar. There will be trades, but you need to keep in mind that if you're moving players out you need teams that want those players
- contracts beyond this year are problematic
- expansion draft in the summer adds complications
- quiet on the Flames front
- If something happens, it happens, if it doesn't, it doesn't.
- We won't openly discuss what we'll do with our free agents
- They've expressed what their appetite is league-wide
- Pat asks him about Gio: "Yeah I'm not going to get into any players"
- Re-iterates he's not going to talk about any players
I suppose this is where we say "What else is he supposed to say?"
When looking at the 2020/2021 season, I genuinely think Brad Treliving may have been the worst general manager in the league. He spent big in free agency, hired a new coach, fired that new coach, hired a new coach, the team is worse under this newest coach than the one he hired in the off-season, and the team is now bottom-5 in the league. A truly impressive train wreck.
