I think it is because I don't know another one where all 3 hit such a high mark.
The contenders would be:
- The Godfather, but depends on how one feels about III
- Star Wars, but I think even though I like Jedi, it is a step down from the other - Toy Story? The third one is amazing. It's close. I would rank #2 or #3.
- Some would say BTTF but I never liked the third.
- The Man with No Name trilogy?
I think those are the contenders.
The Alien trilogy would be on the list but Alien3 is such a step down.
Back to the Future 3 has really grown on me over the years. As a kid, I didn’t really care for the old west setting or the slower pace, and felt like the movie took a weird detour from the fun of the first two.
But watching it now, there's a charm to it I didn’t appreciate back then. The Doc and Clara’s romance, while cheesy, actually works in a sweet, cloy sort of way. Their chemistry feels....I don't want to say genuine, but something close--and there’s something kind of heartwarming about seeing Doc, the eternal scientist, fall head over heels. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely earned its place in the pantheon of oddly endearing sequels that somehow just work. And c’mon, ####in ZZ Top!

Back to the Future 3 fails in that it follows 2 absolutely amazing movies.
On its own, the third is a fun, campy time travel movie Michael J Fox. That alone makes it good

Yeah this. It is something that plagues a lot of '3rd' movies. Just like people think The Dark Knight Rises stumbled the trilogy at the end, it was following up The Dark Knight, I mean it still had some problems but it wasn't that bad.
Similarly, I liked Return of the Jedi, but you're following up Empire!
Where LOTR comes up big was because 'The Two Towers' was an absolute goddamned EPIC and then ol' Petey Jackson told the entire film world to 'hold his beer' and watch this and then BLAMMO!! Return of the King.
Socks decisively dislodged.

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is such a train wreck/fever dream it MUST be seen. Actually, it's more *experienced* than seen. I'm glad i didn't watch it by myself, because without witnesses I wouldn't be sure I didn't imagine it.

Watched Conclave last night with my wife (I can't imagine what recent event would have caused us to make that choice...).
Beautifully shot. Just exceptional cinematography. I was in love with the look of the film. A solid story with a good script (with a couple of weird choices, but okay whatever), but nothing that blew my socks off. Performances are all very strong and compelling. Then after the climax and denouement, it ended on the weirdest note that I could possibly imagine. Just strange.
8/10.

Saw the Minecraft movie this weekend with the kids. Low expectations going in. They loved it. I thought it was enjoyable, but also meh.
Spoiler!
I feel like they missed out on really exploring the mining/building/crafting aspect of Minecraft. Also I want like a 10-15 minute minecart segment. The segment they did was cool, but way too short.
Someone needs to do a 3D animation Minecraft movie.

I watched The Order. It was a competent film (filmed in Southern Alberta) starring Jude Law as a burned out FBI agent trying to take down a terrorist white supremist group led by a charismatic leader played by Nicholas Hoult.
It was based on a true story and takes place in 1980. Thing of it was... I don't know why you would read the story of it, and think "oh, this should be a movie!"? Jude Law's character was interesting and well played... but never existed. He was an amalgam of a number of other agents. There are action sequences of robberies etc, but because they were factual, they weren't really that interesting to watch.
I didn't know the story, so wasn't certain where it was going. At the end, I just sort of thought... "welp, that was "a" movie. I should go watch Jude Law in something he did that was good... maybe Road to Perdition? Haven't seen that in a while..."
