LOL. that article. "As such, the Flames could likely need to retain at least 50% of Huberdeau’s deal." so apparently 50% is the absolute least the Flames would need to retain.

Yeah that's a horribly researched article.
"How can the Islanders help themselves and also get paid for doing so?"
I does not take into account the Flames needs at all, or why they'd eat all the money for no return at all. Trading Huberdeau right now puts Calgary under the cap floor. They have tons of cap. Huberdeau Value is so low. Why would Calgary entertain trading Huberdeau at all right now? It makes no sense. It's far more likely they just sit tight and see how the season goes.

My feeling is they are going to run with what they have till midseason. If they are competitive they keep going. If they suck they start peeling vets out and inserting young guys.
Problem is what you said though. If they dump huberdeau they will have to sign someone eventually to get them to the cap floor.

Not sure why they would dump Huberdeau in the next 3 years. They don’t need the cap space and the CBA expires in two years and there could be a free buyout attached to a new CBA. Suspect they hold tight unless someone blows them out of the water with a trade attached to eating salary (two firsts or something like that). They just don’t need the cap space right now.

Don't worry, I can read between the lines. Craig only will accept 100% retention for the length of term.

Have to wonder how much money that idiot cost himself. 2 50 point seasons and another 40 point season.
Guess being a racist and supporting Trump is more important. He can tweet about Putin now.

I don't think there will be any further compliance buyouts unless the structure of the salary cap changes enough to push enough teams over the cap, and I really don't see that happening. There doesn't appear to be a 'free get out of jail card' on the horizon.

This is probably a good thing for teams with cap space. Allows us to leverage it better.
