I'm so fed up with the 787 after all the delays. The only reason I'm following this intently is because of AC's substantial order.

Heads up, there is an RAF flight due in from Winnipeg around 1415 today. Not sure on the type.
Edit: Word is it is ZH883, a Hercules.

At least everyone on A.net will shut up with the "this is completely normal," and "the 380 was also plagued with problems..."
At least for a day or two.

The A380 had the same type of thing happen with all sorts of bad press about teething issues when it entered service.

Not awkward at all, my comment doesn't even come close to the level of ridiculous posting over at a.net!

Looks like AA is getting ready to unveil a new livery, hopefully this week. I'm personally very excited to see it.

Looks like it gets unveiled in just over an hour!
http://www.aa.com/newamerican
Although I thought they were going to unveil the new livery on the new 77W it looks like it is actually on a 738 inbound to DFW right now. I've always been a big fan of the polished aluminum look, but realize that is a choice that is just becoming less and less practical as more composites work their way into the airframes.
A quote from someone that can see it on a.net (apparently the 77W is already there on the ground in the new livery):
Quote:
It may not be good for me and my career to post this pic ahead of the unveiling. I will however describe what I see. The tail has red white and blue. The leading edge of the tail has wide blue stripes while the back part of the tail has smaller red stripes. All the stripes are going horizontally. It will be interesting to the entire aircraft!

In other news, it looks like Air Canada and Air Georgian have taken an example from European carriers and are starting a cadet program that will take you from no license to first officer with Air Georgian on the Beech 1900 and then to Air Canada four years later:
http://www.airgeorgian.ca/recruitmen...t-program.html
Quote:
If you are chosen to participate in the Cadet Program you will be given a conditional offer of employment by Air Georgian Limited and Air Canada. You will be sent to the FlightSafety Academy at Vero Beach, Florida for a 48-week training course. The cost of this course is approximately US$60,000 and is to be paid for by the candidate. This amount includes full tuition and housing for the duration of the course.
STEP 4
Within 90 days of successfully completing the full training program course, the candidate will become a Beechcraft 1900D First Officer with Air Georgian Limited. The new employee will fly a full schedule (approx. 700 hours per year) and will remain employed at Air Georgian for a minimum of four years. Air Georgian’s offer of employment will be conditional upon successful completion of the Flight Safety training program and the Air Georgian initial airline pilot training program.
STEP 5
After completing a minimum of four years of employment with Air Georgian, the candidate will be hired at Air Canada as a pilot provided he or she meets the following conditions:
- You acquire a minimum of 2000 flying hours as a First Officer on a Multi Turbo Prop aircraft as an employee of AGL (“AGL employment”);
- You successfully complete initial training at the Flight Safety International Academy prior to starting your AGL employment;
- You obtain and hold a valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License;
- You maintain a clean disciplinary record throughout your AGL employment;
- You maintain an attendance record that meets or exceeds the standard at AGL during your AGL employment;
- You successfully complete all required training events during your AGL employment (a maximum of one failed training event that is passed on the subsequent evaluation will be allowed);
- You consent to AGL disclosing to Air Canada the records necessary to confirm your fulfillment of the conditions listed above; and
- You pass an Air Canada Pre-Employment Medical exam and a Pre-Employment Security Clearance.

If Air Canada and Air Georgian were like some airlines, they should pay for your flight training.
I know I looked into the cadet program for CX (I'm can work in HKG.) They send you to Adelaide for flight training, and that is paid for. At least it was when I was looking.

Paid for but then when you are flying for them it is taken off of your pay until the cost is recouped?

I don't think so. But I'd prefer that to paying the cost up front.
The only thing is that you have to stay with CX for 6 years after the program.

That makes sense, but I bet if you break the no doubt contracted 6 years with CX you'd be getting a bill for training costs still not recouped by them.

Meh, too bad. Wonder how it looks on the 777? On the logo at the front it at least looks like the white forms a bit of the eagle head from the previous logo.

Don't doubt that if that's the case. I would imagine it will be stated in the contract that you would sign. I'm wondering if I should still try for it.

If you want to go for it!
When I was still instructing here in Calgary one of my fellow instructors had a friend that went over and ended up flying for CX. He came back to Calgary for a week or so to put in some flying time to keep his Canadian licenses valid, it was cool to see his log book go from flights in a A340-300 to a Cessna 172!
