Tommy dropped in the latest Flames Nation podcast that Cavalry tried to sign Moise Bombito a couple years back...

Forge lose to Valour this afternoon. Cavalry gained 2 points on York and 3 on Forge and Ottawa this weekend. Decent...

Halifax beat Vancouver today, so that's another result that favours the Cavs. Not a bad weekend, all things considered.

Maybe I'm just an eternal optimist, but Musse coming back in style, and a win on the road vs. the first placed team. And now sitting 4th place and 5 points back from the top. This weekend feels like it has the potential of being the season's turning point.

Spruce Meadows decided to host a bouncy castle festival and I'm hearing traffic around there is brutal. Heading out early I guess....

Scoring goals is fun! Amazing what an early goal does for the confidence for the team

Wähling is the Bevan replacement. Big, strong, and fast. Different position but makes a lot of the same runs and Warschiewski and Henry were dropping wide when he made those runs over the top through the middle

Credit to Tommy and staff today. With a healthy attack they clearly had a game plan on how they wanted to attack HFX and it looked good

Wähling needs a left foot, Musse needs a right foot. Both probably left a goal on the table in the second half.

Clean up a couple defensive mistakes (like not falling asleep and getting complacent after scoring) and this team is definitely heading in the right direction

That was probably the most enjoyable game at Spruce Meadows I've seen all year. Cavalry dominated the play. Despite giving up 2 goals I didn't think Halifax looked threatening outside of a few minutes after the first goal, which was poor set piece defending by Cavalry. With better finishing Cavalry put 5 or 6 past Halifax.

Helps when Cavalry were so good, but the drums were on point, there was no megaphone in the stands and some very lively supporters as well. Pretty good crowd as well.

Musse really makes this team tick. Henry is a great spark in attacking mid. Klomp has really upped his game (which hasn't been bad in any way this year just maybe not at last year's level). Wright being able to hold up the ball in the corner in injury time is going to be a huge asset.

Cavalry are back.

Very enjoyable game, it’s nice to see us attacking again! Great crowd today too, couldn’t have been too far off of a sellout.

York with a big win to take them to the top of the table. After all the results this weekend we are only 4 points off York at the top, and we play them next week. Somehow we are right in this thing after our very lacklustre first half of the season.

Couple more thoughts from the game

Shome is really stepping up. A lot of the control Cavalry had on the game was through him. His flexibility in sitting deep or driving forward brings a great dynamic to the midfield. He and Gutierrez are the preferred pair in my mind. Gutierrez was excellent until he wasn’t. Both goals are on him (or at least partially). He blew holding the offside line on the first goal and then gave the ball away before Klomp gave away the pen on the second.

Aird’s set piece and crossing ability is unmatched in this league, but he does have a lot of errant passing when Cavs are in possession. I wonder why the Whitecaps or someone haven’t given Cavalry a few hundred thousand for him as he’s instantly improve their attack and then Aird mis-hits a pass from 20 feet away.

Four or five times in the first half Warschiewski received the ball around midfield with back to goal and immediately turned and fired the ball out to the opposite wing where a winger or fullback was flying forwards. Nice innovation from the coaching staff and using his passing ability. Warschiewski was a handful for the HFX defenders, they couldn’t handle him in the air. Wright didn’t have the same level of physicality in the middle of the pitch when he came on but did a fantastic job holding up the ball in the corner. Nice to have a second option and someone with some attacking ability to bring off the bench.

Love what Henry is bringing. I would argue that attacking quartet plus Shome and Guttierez is the strongest lineup they can field. LCB is really the only debatable position in my mind right now. Hopefully Camargo can get healthy, stay healthy, and be another super sub option with Wright.

Cavs almost got caught napping right at the end. They were seeing the game out so well but then Kamdem got caught out and we gave up a cheap corner at the death. Need to stay alert through the final whistle!

Agreed on 100% of all of that. Shome’s energy and ability to turn with the ball has been really important, and for me he has to be first choice at the 6 now. Gutierrez has looked better than anyone else at the 8, but still has too many mistakes in his game. He can be a really good player if he can cut those errors down.

Henry has been great and deserves playing time. I’m sure he’ll share minutes at the 10 with Camargo and cover the wings as well.

Field has looked surprisingly good at CB, but we’ll look really strong there with Kobza coming back into the team now.

If we can stay healthy we should be able to put a good run of games together to finish the season.
