Putin will go down in history as a coward ordering unwilling soldiers to kill their cousins while hiding in his palace. Meanwhile Zelenskiy the comedian leads by example at the front lines inspiring an entire nation to fight back; staying in Kyiv to fight despite offers by the US to evacuate him. If he gets martyred the guy's going into inspire a huge insurrection and Ukraine will be impossible for Russia to hold.

I don't know why this bothers me so much, but I hate it when news networks start making commercials about how great their Ukraine coverage is. Like for the best coverage on Ukraine tune into CNN. This is war, not a sports event.

NATO (including Canada) is sending more troops into Poland and the Baltic states right now. As for having USAF doing sweeps in an active war zone, I don't think that is the greatest of ideas. There maybe a cool down and a no-fly zone at some point however.

If you have a VPN, BBC has great coverage. Al Jazeera english on youtube is good, too.
I hear you about the CNN stuff, but there's lots of options.

Ukrainians are holding out far better than a lot of people expected. Maybe there's something to be said about fighting for your home vs. being forced to fight against the cousins and neighbours you actually like. Either that or the might, competence, and morale of the Russian armed forces has been grossly overstated.

The de-Nazification angle is evening funnier when you learn that both Ukraine's president (Zelenskyy) and Prime Minister (Shmyhal) are Jewish.
Quite possible the only country in the world outside of Israel where the 2 highest offices in the country are held by Jews.

Um.
Now I'm just spitballing here because I really dont know. But...is this potentially a re-initiation of the Pogroms?
I didnt really think of an anti-Semitic angle to this...but there is historical precedent for this.
I must say...while that would give an identifiable cause to what seems inexplicable...it would be in seriously dangerous 'tinfoil hat' country.
I thought most of the world was largely done with the irrational hatred of Jews.

There are some neo-nazi elements in the Ukrainian military, most notably in the far-right Azov Battalion (who were integrated into the National Guard) and who have likely committed war crimes in the fighting in the eastern part of Ukraine over the last decade. But the notion that the Ukrainian government broadly has any semblance of neo-naziism is obviously ridiculous, particularly under Zelensky.

I was thinking the other way around really. Whether Russia's invasion was anti-Semitically motivated.

The denazification was referring to neo-nazists participating in 2014 revolution, which is both true and severely embellished by Russian media at that time. There was also some degree of Ukraine's hate towards USSR past and this sometimes resulted in a heroisation of ukranians who fought against Russia/USSR on side of Nazis. This is also severely embellished by Russian media. And to be clear, I am half-jewish myself.
