It's unlikely it was ever a fact.
Victoria Arena was part of the Victoria Pavilion (which still has it's name on the Agricultural Building). The only pictures of the arena refer to it as the 'horse show Building' and that's how it's also described in Lloyd Turner's HOF biography, as well as how it's referred in an Annual Report from the year it was constructed by Alberta's Agricultural Department.

Ice wasn't put in it until they took over in 1918 after the war ended and he took it over from the army, where 'the Vics' played out of it. So it seems more likely that it was the horse show building at the Victoria Pavilion that was renamed to the Victoria Arena when ice was put in for hockey.

I believe we'll be the first NHL to do such honour if this plan becomes a reality.

Calling the new arena the dome or corral would probably cut any sponsorship deal by about half. It will be a generic name like centre, place, arena, etc. The sponsor will want people to use their name when referring to the new arena.

I'd like to see Amazon buy the naming rights and call it Climate Pledge Place. I think that would go over well in this province.
