I saw on twitter that this was the longest win streak (6 games) since July 2016!

When they're in Tampa, I am happy with a one-game winning streak!

But this is fantastic, you can see their confidence growing with each win.

If we can steal 2/3 more win against the Rays I’d be a happy camper.

Today's pitchers: Ryu (2-1, 3.46 ERA) vs Slegers (0-9, 11.25 ERA)

It feels silly and futile to even HOPE for a second consecutive win in the Trop. But man, would it be awesome. If they can squeak out one more W, they are guaranteed to leave Tampa in a playoff spot. Come n boys, you can do it!

Was looking at some stats, Shun Yamaguchi had a disastrous start with the Jays, but in his last 5 appearances has pitched 7.2 innings, with 10 K's, just 3 walks and a 1.17 ERA

Starting to look like a pretty shrewd signing by the front office.

The pitching overall is better than probably anyone expected. If a couple of the starters could settle into their roles and start providing more innings, this staff is actually quite good.

I think the Jays are a really good team - a playoff team, they just need to learn that themselves and start believing it.

Yeah, I would agree. The bullpen in particular looks really deep, and has potential to be outstanding. The new additions are pushing guys like Pannone, Gaviglio and Waguespack off the roster, and that's a good thing. Guys like Zeuch and Reid-Foley can't even get a sniff either. Quite a turn around from just last season.

If Merryweather is for real, and Giles comes back and is his usual self things are looking good.

Team ERA is now best in the AL East.

TOR 3.99
TBR 4.18
NYY 4.27

I’m trying to temper my expectations, but looking at the standings and it already looks like a division is forming between the top 8 and bottom 7 teams in the AL. The Jays are now 2 up on the Orioles who are in 9th and falling fast. And Looking at those bottom 7 teams it’s hard to picture any of them making a run. And if the Jays could steal another victory today, and the pitching matchup is a favourable as it gets, then they’ll only be 1.5 back of Tampa too. So maybe these baby Jays will actually make some noise.

You look at the roster, and you look at the prospect pool, and you think "could this be a weird whacky year where something else weird and whacky happens?"

Trade deadline approaching, if you get my drift...

I also wonder if something shakes loose in Cleveland with Plesac and Clevinger. I think those two may have upset a lot of the guys in that locker room, maybe they will have to moved.

Imagine adding either one of them to the Jays rotation? Or *shudder* both?

not liking the way this game is shaping up...

Jays get a run in the top of the 5th, but leave the bases loaded

Ryu was dealing, but gives the run back in the bottom half

Jays get guys into scoring position but can't capitalize in the 6th

Montoyo yanks Ryu and puts Font in for the 6th

Two on, two out for the Rays in the bottom of the 7th and they bring Merryweather in to face Tsutsugo...

Merryweather mows him down looking

Been pleasantly surprised with Merryweather. That fastball-slider combo is legit. Plus he dropped a curveball in there that looked pretty good too.

It’s hard to watch your stud prospect go from an everyday third baseman to a part time first baseman. I hope he is hearing the message that is being sent. He needs to grow up and become a professional.

Thornton out of the game after 1 with elbow soreness. Looks like 3 starters will be on the DL. ####.

In fairness to Vlad he admitted he showed up out of shape, and he acknowledges that he needed to take it more seriously and it sounds like he is working with the head trainer every day. I also have seen quite a few more better at bats from vlad over the last couple weeks. He's not striking out very much, he is taking walks, and hitting the ball in the air more. He obviously has a long way to go with conditioning and being a professional but it sounds like he doing the right things right now.
