Wheaton has been interviewing Cast and Crew and been pimping this show relentlessly so it only stands to reason that he's not going to be on it.

Ah yes - the Kurtzman Maneuver. Rehash ever character and plot device from the good ole' days and draw on nostalgia. Far easier to do than to create quality original content.
It's like Kevin Lowe was put in charge of the franchise.
New Star Trek is No Good.

When Agnes started singing, I asked my wife what we were even watching. It all feels so unnecessary.

I miss episode tightness. Maybe I am too ruined by shows where every line and scene has meaning, like Better Cal Saul, but yeah, the singing, this weirdness with Jurati… I don’t find it engaging.

The problem is that Jurati just isn’t an interesting or compelling character to be doing this with. We don’t know her or care about her or even like her. Made all the more strange by having a character on the show with far more potential for a Borg / Borg Queen reconciliation arc.

I think what they should explore, and what would be more interesting than whatever is going on now, is what would happen with the Borg by assimilating a neutered Q in 2024.
I still have no idea how this is supposed to be 2024. Sometimes it appears like 2024, other times it doesn’t looks a few centuries ahead.

Whenever a musical number appears on any tv show, the CRTC should be allowed to insert the Monty Python and the Holy Grail segment where King Arthur decides not to go to Camelot.

I'm really looking forward to the automated drone sun umbrella force field. That's going to be great. Only 2 years away!

Episode sucked. Season going totally off the rails. Ah well.
I don't think Jeri Ryan had one line of dialog in the entire episode.

Part of the reason I don't like these season spanning arcs is that they just seem to be stretching it out too much.
This really could have been a 2 part TNG episode.
People will say they are doing Character development, but they really aren't.
Telling me Picard has a dark back story isn't exactly character building, it doesn't really mesh with what we already know of him. They aren't going to go much further, so it's not going to be something that motivates him going forward, and I have a hard time seeing how it will change how I look at him from the TNG era.
The other characters are the same, they aren't developing them much at all.
Raffi is angry about losing Elnor.
Seven is a bad girlfriend apparently.
Jurati can sing.
Rios, I guess we are getting a bit about him. He's building a relationship and showing empathy for the doctor, but that's kind of what I would expect from anyone in Starfleet.
Disco is the same. Every once in a while someone mentions how they know how to surf to save the day, or Detmer has a little bit of PTSD, but other than that it's just a full season of Deus Ex Michael. Hell it's been 4 seasons, and I still only know like 50% of the characters names.
There is a fine line between character development/world building, and filler.
Character development should show me what motivates these characters, or how/why they are changing. Jurati has a good voice and is kind of fun when she's drunk isn't character development.
It's not all bad so far:
Guinan was kind of a cool take, and we did in fact learn something about her and her motivations
The call back to Gary 7 is a cool bit of continuity
Q is interesting, I'm kind of intrigued to see why he's doing what he's doing
I'm vaguely interested in Soong (clearly he's about to start the Eugenics wars), but guys, it's okay to have more than 2 families be important in the whole Galaxy.
None of the main cast are on that list though, and that is the problem.
I'm gonna keep watching, but man, I'm not playing super close attention.

I think she had some line about Picard's brain activity when he was unconscious....but otherwise, I agree, these plot points could probably have been advanced by adding an extra 5 minutes to the previous episode.
But Rios thinks matches are neat!

So Q put them in an alternate timeline that is the real timeline had this one thing not happened. 7 of 9 then doesn't have a Borg implant. So presumably Picard isn't an android in this timeline, since none of those events could happen. So this should be flesh and blood Picard. Why did he fry the defibrillator? Is this Picard at risk of dying, or wouldn't he be dead already from his brain issue?

Also with such short episode run times, spending obnoxious amounts of time on filler is a huge waste.

Remember, Picard has a bionic heart after getting stabbed through the chest in a bar fight when he was at Starfleet Academy. Maybe that's what fried it?
That was probably the weakest episode so far, as it didn't really push the plot forward. But I'm still enjoying this series a lot more than Discovery. I liked the conversation between Picard and his ancestor, and the stuff with Dr. Soong is interesting. 4 episodes left, so hopefully they can start moving things along in the next one. We still don't quite know what's going on with Q or why he's doing all of this.

Didn't they turn Picard into an android at the end of last season or did that get reversed by Q when he sent him back to the past?

Well that was my point, 7 of 9 got reversed, so why wouldn't Picard? meaning he wouldn't have an artificial heart, and if he did, would the doctor not have caught that? But basically we know the answer, the writers don't care.

No, if 7 of 9 still doesn't have Brog implants, Picard still has his bionic body. It was the new timeline they travelled back from.
At least that's how I'm seeing it.

So...I know we lament current Star Trek and 'filler episodes' but what was the point of this Episode? Was it so useless that they had to literally 'fill' a 'filler episode' with a musical number to pad the runtime?
I gather they're all getting paid by the episode so they're like people in traffic who dawdle along because they're getting paid by the hour?
I'd have much preferred a tight 6-8 episodes rather than a bloated 10.
If you're going to re-structure Star Trek into a mini-series format then at least make it tight as opposed to meaningless meandering.

Gul Dukat ####ed him up to the point he still got the synthetic body. It's addressed in episode 2.
Didn't mind Jurati singing. Agree that the last two episodes could have been summed up in about 15 minutes and the entire six episodes so far condensed down to about two. A bit annoying since it started so strong. The hope is it comes back around and finishes strong now.
