I've said it already in this thread but this is easily the worst NFL season I can remember. It's not just that there are so many mediocre teams, it's the quality of the play in games just seems to be really bad this year. Add in atrocious officiating and this really hasn't been a good year of football. New England will only lose the Super Bowl through injuries I'd think.

I kind of thought the same throughout much of last year, to be honest. I think the other thing that's getting to me a bit is the NFL as an organization as a whole. Just not a lot to like about this league from the standpoint of being a decent human-being, so when the product on the field is mediocre, it's even harder to get into it.

Seems like a lot of weeks have featured a pretty mediocre set of match ups. Maybe it's the way the schedule rotation worked out his year...There are going to be 8-8 teams in the playoffs for sure...and no one will gripe because even at 8-8 that will be a top 6 record in each conference.
It's also been a tough year for skill position guys getting injured. The guys replacing Romo, Jordy Nelson, Jamaal Charles, and the like don't bring the same type of excitement.

Aldon Smith is saying goodbye to teammates in the Raiders dressing room.
NFL suspension finally handed down for his past offseason DUI/Hit & Run/Vandalism?

NFL is suspending Raiders' LB Aldon Smith one year for his role in an Aug. 28 incident, per league source.

I think Arizona would be a bad match up for them and could beat them injured or not.
They should pray for the Panthers luck to continue because that would be a piece of cake match up for them.

Totally agree and there are two other major reasons:
1) the sheer amount of advertising in a game is a joke. I get that the game has to get paid for somehow but its well past the point of being absurd.
2) Most games are stultifying because of the deep rule book, TD and turnover reviews, challenges, officials conferences, the 2 minute warnings, etc. People from other countries that go to NFL games must go "what the hell did we come here for other than to drink because almost nothing happens on the field." There is something genuinely wrong when the announcers of any given game can really only speculate about how a given play will be called because of the inconsistency of the officiating and the arcane rule book. Listen to Sunday Night Football where Michaels and Collinsworth seem only to be able to guess about whether a play is legit or not. It's so bad that the networks have rules interpretation analysts. "So, Mike, did Beckham make the catch?" Followed by a two minute explanation. I nearly clawed my eyes out watching the first half of the Seattle / Arizona game. NFL are insistent on making it harder to be a fan.

The Aug 28 incident was previously un-reported. It happened AFTER he was cut by the 49ers but before he was signed by the Raiders.
So, in theory, the NFL hasn't even ruled on a penalty for the DUI I mentioned (it is still going through legal proceedings). There might be a longer suspension coming from that.
Edit: It is now being reported that there was an error by someone at ESPN (Schefter?). The incident the suspension is for is the Aug 6th one which is the DUI/Hit & Run.

So, pretty stoked that Brock Osweiler is now the Broncos starting QB for the foreseeable future. I don't know what it means for the Broncos, but I think it's awesome that a kid from my small hometown in Montana winds up playing QB for my favorite NFL team.
Personally, I think he's suited perfectly to play Kubiak's offense and I hope we see a ton of naked bootlegs in the coming weeks. He's far more athletic at 6' 8" then one would expect and he's got a cannon for an arm. Excited to see how he does!

It's at its most intrusive during prime time games. The absolute worst is after a TD: 4min of commercials, come back for the kickoff (which feels like 90% of the time it's a touchback, since moving the kickoff spot up), then another 3-4min of commercials.
I can't handle being live in night games because of it, I always have to be behind on the PVR or I get so frustrated with all the breaks.

It also ruined the live NFL experience for me.
At least when you are watching on tv you can flip between a couple games to avoid the commercial time.
When I went to a game in New York that was the worst part. Felt like you spend 90% of time just sitting there while absolutely nothing was going on.

49ers have put Colin Kaepernick on IR, which ends his season. Speculation is that they'll waive him to avoid the big pay increase he is due next season (and the season after.) Of course, he could restructure his contract. But, for a guy who looked like he was on the cusp of big things two years ago, this may be an ignominious end of his term in San Francisco.

I just dont see him going somewhere else and all of a sudden being an impact guy again. its "easy" to look great when you are new and catch teams by surprise but teams will watch the film and find ways to stop you. he hasnt adjusted. he is really not good at all....

This is going to be an interesting offseason as far free agent QBs go. A number of high-profile busts should be on the market. Bradford, Kaepernick, Griffin, Geno, etc., are all likely looking for new teams.
