Round 2 hopes for CGY tomorrow:
Nikita Korostelev
Oliver Kylington
Mitchell Stephens
Alex Dergachyov
JFK
Outside of swinging for the fences with Kylington, do the Flames really need to gamble on D now? Need Scorers still.

Friedman says the Flames are the biggest winners today. Hartley can close his eyes and just throw 2 d-men out there next year.
He's right.

Senyshyn was #1 on my list of players for round 2, and I thought he might be taken in the 20-25 range possibly. It was a stretch at 15, but it's not like he's terrible.
Also for just exclusive stat watchers, he was on the 2nd/3rd line in SSM because they are awesome, which contributes to his low point totals.

Another McDavid commercial. Thank goodness, I didn't know if we'd see that again tonight. I can sleep well now.

I agree with this a ton. Strome is a big (possible) 1st line centre. Those guys just can't be found on the market, you HAVE to draft them. And Merkley may not be a huge future scorer, but he will contribute and is a great character guy who can slot into the 2nd/3rd line in a few years. Basically, Merkley is the Doan replacement. Great draft for a perpetually questionable team.

as far as draft winners, I would say Winnipeg won the draft. Connor has potential to be the 3rd best forward in this draft. The Islanders also seem to have added some serious skill between Barzal and Beauvillier after coming into the draft without a first rounder.

Yep, steal of the draft IMO. As if they need it. Could be a real powerhouse in a few years with all their prospects and young players.

This is true as well. Winnipeg now has the luxury of (Red Wings Style) letting their prospects really develop back in Junior and in the AHL. The importance of that cannot be overstated. Winnipeg is absolutely stacked with young talent.

Very entertaining first round even without a Flames pick. We got his tomorrow. In Treliving we trust.

Treliving tells 960 that he tried to get back into the 1st round but wasn't close.
Said dropping to 53 was too big a drop for teams.

The Flames should have a shot at one of those guys, and then there are still some decent defencemen, which you can never have too many of:
Nicolas Meloche (RD)
Rasmus Andersson (RD)
Parker Wotherspoon (LD)
Vince Dunn (LHD)
Guillaume Brisebois (LD)
Travis Dermott (RD)
Jeremy Lauzon (LD)
Brendan Guhle (LHD)
Matthew Spencer (RD)
Not to mention other interesting forwards like
Glenn Gawdin
Ryan Gropp
Christian Fischer
Austin Wagner
Filip Chlapik
AJ Greer
JC Beaudin
Julius Nattinen
Nicolas Roy
We're guaranteed one of these guys, and there are others who I'm not keen on but the scouts may like, and said scouts have forgotten more than I'll ever know about these players.
