Sure we got classic lines, but we got a word mark + logo on the front. It's obviously a design by committee where one group wanted a word mark and the other didn't want to get rid of the Flaming C.
The shoulder yoke is also cheezy as hell. I'm usually not against western stuff, but this is just lame.
The secondary looks OK and I think most agree it's either awesome or OK. Nobody really hates it.
All this also doesn't even address the fact that you can't make an outfit look OK with 4 or more colours. That's the reason why the black haters hate black. It makes the jersey unnecessarily busy.
|
To be clear, I don't love it, nor do I find it really that good. My point exactly was that the Flames gave people some of the most requested changes to the jersey, but people then decided not to like the changes they were given.
As for the impossibility of 4 colours, the 2004 jerseys were regarded around the league as one of the best outfits in hockey at the time. 4 colours works if you use simple lines and a really classic cut, which is part of the problem with the thirds of course. They got rid of some clutter, but added some different clutter.
Honestly, if they redesign our primaries and add a few touches of black, it would bring that jersey to a whole new level. No silly piping, vertical stripes, or any of that nonsense. Take the retros, ad a bit of black in the right places, and you've got a home run.
But anyways, as I said, my point was exactly what you said, the Flames have people what they wanted, but they weren't happy with what they wanted once they saw what that looked like. It's not like there were better concepts for a 3rd here.

I wish they would get rid of the stupid NHL tags on the bottom of the replicas, hate that they feel the need to add that to the jerseys.

I thought it was just ruffled due to the players not being in equipment.
Didn't know that was a feature of it, and yes it is that bad.

I could give two ####s but what an abortion of a jersey. It's like the A.d.d kid couldn't decide what to put on the front

You can pretend all you want. They are not mountains. It resembles a western shirt. Very tacky.

Does Flames marketing suck or what? Why does the jersey need to have the word, "Calgary" on it with a reduced Flaming "C". The Flaming C is pretty iconic without having anyone spell it out. This is worse than the snotty horse they had on the sweaters some time back. The jersey looks like it's for a minor league team. Don't fix something that wasn't broken!

Retros r the best
I guess they just want to juice more money outta flames fans
As if they don't make enough
This thing would actually look cool
If they just put the Flaming C without the script

Even the Icethetics blog mentioned that he thought it was a reference to mountains, not a cowboy shirt.

I don't like that the black shoulder bar isn't straight and is rectangular.
Other than the shoulder patches, and it's a red jersey, I don't really like it.

Boo-urns.
I've only liked the team name lettering on the older teams, cause once upon a time, most of them did have lettering. When some of the other teams started doing it, like Colorado, I thought it was kinda silly.
Truth be told, I don't mind the Colorado ones now, so maybe these will grow on me.
I actually kinda like the patch. But I'm not over the moon about it.
All in all, I'm not horrified by it (still better than the horse) but I definitely don't likey.

i have a funny feeling i'll wait until i can get a blank of this jersey then do up my own version....
standard flaming c on the front
the new shoulder patches
name/number (but not one with a '5')
i don't mind the 'calgary' script with the flaming c... but it should be on a hoodie, not a jersey

It's weird, IMO the jersey looked terrible in the NHL 14 leaks, looks terrible in real life even when just a jersey (see a page back) but looks alright when someone's wearing it...
I like the colours and the shoulder patch and really the overall design except for the logo. But when I watch the video where they introduce it, I keep getting lulled into thinking it's not a bad jersey. At this point I actually sort of feel like I want one but would want a non-replica stitched one which I can't afford so I probably won't. But I'm not fussed about not getting one either. Odd.
