Anecdote: In the early 2000s when the first The Muppets Christmas Carol DVD came out it was full screen only. I wrote Disney expressing my disappointment and received a reply that they'd forward my comments to the relevant department for consideration. About a year later they re-released it in widescreen, and I like to think I made all the difference.
|
They didn't take it out for Disney+. It had never been included in any of the HD/4K versions of the film. Because it wasn't in the final theatrical release, the original film stock was thought to have been lost, so they didn't have anything with high enough quality to fit into the Disney+ version. This is why a lower-quality version of the song is included as a Bonus feature on D+, but isn't in the presentation of the film itself.
Sometime in the last couple of years, the original film stock was discovered in the Disney archives, so they begun work to remaster it and bring it up to the quality of the rest of the movie on D+.

That's the weird thing, I don't think I saw this in theaters, I would have been too old to go see it, but I remember that song. I guess maybe I did go see it and just don't remember.

The song wasn't in the theatrical release but was in the VHS version and the "fullscreen" version on the DVD.
I believe there's an edited-for-tv version of the movie because I'm sure that's how I first saw it, but I don't know if it includes the song or not.
Ever since D+ launched, it's become my Christmas night tradition, when I get home from my sister's place after Christmas dinner, to watch The Muppet Christmas Carol and the bonus feature of When Love Is Gone. So, it will be nice to finally have it included in the full movie.

Elf is our most common Christmas day movie with extended family.. one year I got everyone to watch A Nightmare Before Christmas and man that didn't go over well lol, been a while since we've done a movie on Christmas.
Maybe I'll try and restart it with this movie.

People seem to either love or hate A Nightmare before Christmas.

I think Planes, Trains, and Automobiles works great (in Canada at least as we don’t usually go that overboard for Thanksgiving) as an Xmas movie.
and Gremlins. Gremlins is one of those great Xmas/Halloween cross-overs like Nightmare before Xmas.

Gremlins is great. I love showing old movies to my kids. We were watching this one and there was one part that I never picked up as a kid. Billy and Kate were walking down the street and she is talking about how Christmas is bad and says "As people are opening presents, others are opening their wrists." We just looked at each other and said, did they just say that? We had to rewind it and check. I love the 80s bluntness

Elf, Home Alone and Christmas Vacation are always on when we decorate the house for Christmas. My wife and I always make sure we watch Die Hard before Christmas. We have a lot of Christmas movies we try to get to throughout December though. Some, to me, are meh but my wife and kids love them.
Gee, it's getting close...

I've been watching Harrow, an Australian show about a pathologist played by Ioan Gruffudd. I'm not really into CSI-type shows, but I'm really enjoying it. 3 seasons, 10 episodes each.

Just an FYI, and you probably all know it, but Shaw has added the Disney+ app to their boxes now.

Also, if you sign a contract with Shaw for 2 years you get Disney+ free for the 2 years.

Loved the last two episodes of She-Hulk.
Finished The Patient. Didn't love the entire series but they nailed the finale. The family dinner scene was wow.
Slogging through The Handmaid's Tale. Still has it's moments but starting to feel like work vs. entertainment at this point.

FX miniseries 'Fleishman is in Trouble' premiers today on Disney. I read the book a few years ago so I'm going to give the show a shot.

Wanted to circle back to this, thanks for the recommendation. I like Australian TV shows like this and I've been really enjoying it, I'm only a couple episodes in.
I dont know what platform its on, but if you liked this one, I highly recommend 'Rake.'

When we first signed up for Disney I was excited to revisit all the classic stuff. Two years later and I still hadn't. So while hemming and hawing on whether to renew or not, I figured I should binge some stuff before we do. I watched a bunch of the early shorts and Snow White so far. They look absolutely stunning. Seriously you could pause at any point and have a gorgeous painting.
