It’s not just because. You don’t need a player equal to Lindholm to create balance. That’s increasing the overall production by a lot, which would be ideal, but unfeasible. Seeing if balance can increase it a little bit, or spread out the scoring, is the obvious goal.
|
If lindholm plays third line minutes next year I will stop posting on this site completely.
It's a ludicrous suggestion from one of the most out of touch posters on the board.
Czarnik couldn't play a full time spot in the league this year and he's going to slot ahead of the teams best 3 zone winger?
I can't believe this is something that wasn't completely ignored outright. Calling it a fantasy is an insult to fantasies.
This guy has absolutely no idea what he's talking about :
If the notion that lindholm would go from elevating the top line to career highs and a division title to the third line wasn't stupid enough on its surface, just consider the source.

A Bennett-Backlund-Czarnik/Neal line would not be able to shut anyone down. So instead you have to ask Tkachuk-Kadri to take on tough matchups. Yes, they can do it, but the goal was to get Tkachuk away from checking the MacKinnons and such so that he can score on the Josts and such.
A Tkachuk - Kadri - Neal line would be overwhelmingly slowfooted on the wings. Czarnik's skillset is perfectly complementary to Tkachuk and we saw that last year when they played together, but Czarnik couldn't handle the tough checking duties assigned to the Backlund line.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland was statistically not much worse than Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm at five on five. The numbers bear this out:
GMF
53.15% CF
59.19% GF
GML
54.05% CF
59.39% GF
If that's the "dropoff" for making another line much stronger... it's common sense.

It's an absurd notion that deserves a massive flogging. Give your head a shake.

No, he’ll play LW. Unlike Crosby, who generally plays with two filler wingers, Monahan has one of the best offensive players in the league, plus a “filler” in a guy like Ferland.
It’s all hypothetical, but it’s not as difficult to understand as you try to make it.

Again, people but far far too much stock in slotting rather than overall player usage.
I love Lindholm on the first line. But if you can balance the lines so that you have a great shut down line who can score, along with two offensive lines anchored by Gaudreau/Monahan and Tkachuk/Kadri, that seems like a pretty sensical thing to try.
|
Where is Kadri? Not here.
Where is Ferland? Sure as hell not here. Thankfully this absurd idea is still a few trades and signings away. For what it's worth, Ferlands one head shot away from ending his career. But yeah let's bank o his grit to power the top line through.
At any rate. No way the Flames sign Ferland with the cap constraints they have.
And this terrible scenario can go away.

Are you seriously screencapping a factually correct post I made, with a rebuttal that confuses even strength scoring (4v4/3v3/5v5/6v5) with 5v5 scoring, which I in the exact same thread addressed only four posts later with actual recorded statistics?
You wanna make ad hominems and strawmans, be my guest, but if anyone has no idea what they're talking about, it's the guy with the misleading screencap.
And yes, my opinion of ROR was a bit pessimeistic and he had a great year on a team where he fit perfectly. That doesn't mean he would have had that great year here.

Czarnik on the top line? Am I stuck in a time loop from last year’s off season?

Good grief. The discussion is about removing Lindholm from RW on the first line. There’s no reason to even mention Gaudreau.
I think hypothetical might be your most used word and you only use it to be smug.

The discussion was how to balance the lines if you acquire Ferland and Kadri. Keep up champ!

Considering the source, I find that to be an unreasonably cutting statement.

It’s the courting thread. Have you ever read Romeo & Juliet? Sometimes courting involves violence and death.

Whelp, Treliving has had a very underwhelming off-season so far.
Smith out/Talbot in, even as happy as I am with that move doesn't necessarily move the needle much.
Hopefully he starts pulling the trigger here soon on some deals to improve the team and look to address what they perceive to be the cause behind the disastrous playoff showing.

You're definitely right that he's not a top line guy but I would love him for middle 6 RW spot, which is what we need

Historically, many more times than not, the GMs that are the quietest on the first days of UFA end up doing the best work for their team.
