Teo’s 200+ Ks might not appeal to Atkins. That is a lot of ####ing strikeouts! I like the guy and wanted us to pick him up at the deadline but I don’t know the team likes the idea of bringing him back. I think he might get better pitches if he’s in a stronger lineup so it might cut the K rate down a bit and increase his production.

The Jays never had a chance at that number. Even at 600 it is crazy. How many pitchers have returned to form after 2 tommy johns surgeries? I do not remember many, Mike Clevinger in recent memory and even he is not the same.

It's just never a happy ending with the teams I follow.
Totally sucked me in again, and I thought we actually had him.

This contract is a big reason I’ve come to hate pro sports.

Add in the est arb guys and Ohtani, and they are at 244 for CBT purposes, and assume they'll still add some FA pitchers.

Is he really with 70M a season though? Also will he be worth 70M at the end of his contract so is it really front loaded

I would bet the reason we seen these delays is negotiations. Perhaps Rogers was willing to do $650M and there was some last day pushes to get more. He’s not a man who wants money my ass. They’re all the same. Every athlete wants money first.

Jays still need:
LF
3B
DH
IMO 2B is easily covered from within. Between Biggio, Schneider and Espinal they should be able to squeeze 2-4 fWAR out of that position I think.
They might be able to fill out LF from within as well, but they will probably go out and get somebody.
What a kick in the fricken nuts to still need a DH though. Maybe we can get Rowdy LOL. From Ohtani to Rowdy?? Hahaha

They also need a SP to replace Ryu, unless we think Tiedeman/Manoah cover that spot.

Objectively speaking as a neutral, I think he is being way overvalued as a pitcher. Having elbow issues just 5 years post Tommy John, and then getting a more band-aid type procedure this team, is not a 30 yo pitcher I'd bet a lot of money on being able to pitch multiple full seasons.
70 million per year for the 30-40 years of a DH is pretty insane, and doubt he'll be worth that.

Make me wonder how much the Jays offered?
You would think that the Blue Jays would have to offer more.

Gausman
Berrios
Bassitt
Kikuchi
Manoah
Tiedemann
White
Their 5th starter was in the conversation for Cy young in 2022, and their 6th starter is one of the top SP prospects in all of baseball. The defacto 7th starter finished the season in Buffalo on an absolute heater.
You can always use more pitching, and I'd love more of a sure thing to rely on than the Manoah/Tiedemann/White trio, but I certainly wouldn't call starting pitching a massive need at this point.

I'd guess Dodgers were his first choice, and asked them to match Blue Jays top offer.
MLB agents and union put a lot of pressure on their tent pole guys to take the most money possible as their duty to set the market for everyone else.

They could have offered $700 million too for all we know. Maybe even a little more.
I don't know if they did or not, but if it was anywhere close to even money Ohtani probably picks the Dodgers. I deluded myself into thinking that wasn't the case, but clearly it was. That team won 100+ games last year in a season where they cut costs so they could get under the luxury tax threshold so they could afford to go after him, and he doesn't have to even move across the continent now. Plus they're not in the AL east. I'd pick them too.

Because the people who pay don’t care about hockey. nHLers should have been smarter and played baseball.

Although I will say, I still want Yamamoto. Could be an ace.
I also want Jung Hoo Lee. Outfielder posted out of the KBO, would look fantastic in LF
Then if they landed Yama, maybe trade a starter for a decent 3B with control??
Sign a FA for DH, maybe JD Martinez, or bring Belt back.
