I don't like the idea of giving up a 1st round pick two years in a row. Prospect depth is an organizational weakness right now.

Other than maybe the Pittsburgh game, Smtih has gotten exactly the starts I'd expect a backup to play. So I don't see management's lack of faith in Rittich (or an attempt to shore up Smith). Rittich has played really well over the course of the season. Smith hasn't but is getting better. I like that.

I was doing a bit of an analysis when I lazyily closed by browser the other day and lost my post, but basically since November 25th (which is suddenly the cuttoff point for the season for all the cherry-pickers) Rittich has started against 8 teams who at the time of the game were top ten in goals per game. Smith has started against two, and one of them was Washington at 8th as they sat Alex Ovechkin, currently on pace to win the Rocket again. The other was the Pittsburgh start. Rittich had Tampa x 2, Columbus, San Jose x 2, and a few others I forget. In addition three of Rittich's save percentage busting losses came in 3v3 overtime, a situation that won't happen in the post-season as overtime resembles regulation play there.

I don't know what the price would be for Jesse Puljujarvi. I heard Allan Mitchell of TSN 1260 in Edmonton suggest a price like a 2nd round pick and Nic Petan yesterday. Would the Oilers think along the same lines?
If so, what is the equivalent price to a 2nd round pick and Nic Petan? Would people be willing to pay it?
Just at a glance, Petan seems like a high-end AHLer who hasn't scored yet in the NHL. To me, the answer is Andrew Mangiapane + 2nd round pick for Jesse Puljujarvi. I would have to think about it, but I think I would do that.

LOL, that's what the Senators thought playing Chicago when they found out even scoring 7 goals wasn't enough. That 2 point convert by the Hawks was the difference.
Of course, you were likely talking about NHL teams.

Flames traded a second, Jokipaaka and Koski for Lazar. I guess they could trade a second and Lazar for PullRV.

Tough to nail down just what pool party is worth.
When the senators cut bait on Lazar it was because he was pending rfa and they had seen enough to suggest they didn't want to sign him.
I don't think that's the case in Edmonton. I think they want to sign him. At this point pool party career high in goals is twice that of Lazar when he was traded, but it's still only 12 goals.
The oilers will need to save face by 'winning' some trades here and I don't think pool party for a pick is worth it to them.
On the other hand, what do you do when a guy wants out?

What about a 2nd round pick and Mangiapane? Do you think that would work?

It was Jokipakka and a 2nd for Kostka and Lazar.
2 for 2 not 3 for 1.

No, the price for the flames would be the highest of any team in the league.
2nd plus mangiapane-level prospect from say Winnipeg or Anaheim or the Rangers might get it done.

Things are afoot with the Capitals.
Dmitrij Jaskin is not on the ice for practice.
Winger will be placed on waivers at noon.

I think you and I have seen the same stats and reached the same conclusion. But I am just saying that management sees Rittich as the number one. I also think Peters has a basic plan for starst

Do you guys think Lazar will get into any games with the Flames prior to the trade deadline?

At this rate, I don't see it happening.

imo the flames aren't really in a position to be moving any roster players off the roster.
Mangiapane has been a great fit on the 4th line because he actually belongs there vs playing over his head. It's really important having those guys in the lineup and I don't think I'd be interested in moving him even if a forward addition relegated Mangiapane to the 13th forward role.
